Among the celebrations you will find the Lunar New Year research mission, which, if you complete it, will allow you to get to Tauros. This is excellent news for Pokémon Go players who live outside their regional exclusivity zone.

Field Research Tasks and Everything You Need to Know About the Lunar New Year Event in Pokémon Go
During the Lunar New Year event in Pokémon Go, you can earn a series of special Field Investigations by spinning PokéStops. These missions can only be achieved during the event, but can be completed once it ends.
Below are the field research tasks for the Lunar New Year event:
- Send 3 Gifts to a friend – reward: encounter with Meowth
- Send 10 gifts to friends – reward: encounter with Meowth of Alola or Meowth of Galar
- Catch 6 Water-type Pokémon – reward: encounter with Miltank
- Catch 12 Pokémon – reward: encounter with Meditite

Also, the Lunar New Year event adds MegaGyarados to the Mega Evolutions rotation, so if you are collecting all Mega Pokémon, remember to add it to your collection.
Another cool bonus is that the Exchange distance is increased during the event to 40 kilometers. This will roll back on February 15, so you have plenty of time to trade remotely.
The chance of getting Lucky Pokémon has increased during the event, so this is the perfect time to trade Pokémon.

Finally, in keeping with the Lunar New Year theme, more red Pokémon will appear in the wild, including Krabby, Goldeen, Magikarp, and Tepig.

The Lunar New Year event in Pokémon Go celebrates the beginning of the Lunar New Year, which will be the Year of the Ox.
Both the Lunar New Year Research Mission and the Exclusive Field Research will only be available during this event, which will be held from Tuesday, February 9 at 10am (local time) to Sunday, February 14 at 1pm (local time).
The Lunar New Year mission has four steps, each with three individual challenges. If you want to get all the rewards from this quest, including two encounters with Tauros and Megenergy Gyarados, you will have to complete everything before the event ends or they will disappear forever.
