The atypical ASUS RTX 3080 NOCTUA tested
The card had caught our attention, with its unique look, largely due to the fans Noctuaour colleagues from TechpowerUp offers us a test of the RTX 3080 NOCTUA ofASUS.
Remember that the card offers a Boost at 1785 Mhz (1815 Mhz in OC mode) and that cooling is provided by two 120 mm fans… Particular attention should be paid to cooling efficiency, from our point of view.
ASUS and Noctua are easily two of the most respectable brands in the PC component industry. In 2021, the company began a collaboration that brought together Noctua’s expertise in designing high-quality fans and the ASUS magic in building top-notch graphics cards. I reviewed the ASUS GeForce RTX 3070 Noctua OC in October 2021 and was impressed and begged ASUS for more. Today, this wish comes true and I have the honor of testing the ASUS GeForce RTX 3080 Noctua OC.
It looks like things went well with the RTX 3070 Noctua, so the two companies decided on their next project, the RTX 3080, which makes perfect sense. The card offers one level higher performance than the RTX 3070 and also has a higher selling point, helping to absorb the cost of the new cooler design.
Based on 8nm “GA102” silicon, the GeForce RTX 3080 more than doubles the number of unified shaders compared to the previous generation RTX 2080. It packs 8,704 CUDA cores, 68 RT cores, and 272 Tensor cores. The amount of memory has been increased by 25%, to 10 GB, as has the width of the memory bus, to 320 bits. NVIDIA and Micron Technology have pioneered an all-new memory standard for the GeForce 30 series, which they call GDDR6X. This memory operates at a data rate of 19 Gbps and helps NVIDIA achieve memory bandwidth levels of 760 GB/s.
ASUS designed a custom cooling solution for the RTX 3080 Noctua and paired it with the battle-tested PCB design of the RTX 3080 TUF. Physically it’s a big card taking up four slots, which shouldn’t be a problem, given that SLI is dead and almost everyone only has one PCIe card installed: the chart. ASUS promised to send us pricing for the RTX 3080 Noctua last week, but we’re still waiting for that update. Until then, we estimate a price of $1100 for the RTX 3080 Noctua, $200 above the current RTX 3080 price on the market.
