F1 2023: everything you need to know

After a 2022 version of good quality but still far from what is expected, F1 23 will be eagerly awaited by the racing game community. Will this opus be (finally) the long-awaited full game or yet another version with a slightly bitter taste and a feeling of deja vu? Motor1 takes stock for you.

Release date, platforms and price

While the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions used to come out during the month of September, the most recent games have tended to appear earlier and earlier, between the end of June and July. F1 23 will mark a new record for precocity since the game will be released this Friday, June 16. It will be available on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, but also on Playstation 4 and Xbox One. The game will cost you between 70 and 99 euros depending on the version and the EA offers…

Braking Point 2

A more developed and more immersive career mode? It’s still not for now. Instead, F1 23 will see the return of the story mode, “Braking Point”, which was introduced in F1 2021. Devon Butler, the main antagonist, and Aiden Jackson, the protagonist, are both confirmed for their return and the pilot Retired veteran Casper Akkerman is also expected to make an appearance.

The story will center on the Konnersport Butler Racing Team during the 2022 and 2023 seasons. This new team will see Jackson and Butler become teammates while in parallel, a Formula 2 prodigy, Callie Mayer (who happens to be Butler’s sister) will try her luck in motorsport’s premier class after winning the Formula 2 championship with Trident.

A new mode named “F1 World” will also be introduced. It will extend the “F1 Life” functionality of F1 22 and will link all modes featured in the game, including ranked, esports, offline and online game modes. This also includes the return of the Podium Pass.

Gameplay and graphics

The graphics engine between F1 22 and F1 23 remains unchanged whether in the texture of the track or the 3D models of the F1s. Certainly the graphics of F1 22 are of good quality but it would have been appreciable to use the capacities of the consoles of the new generation. However, certain elements such as the acceleration and braking bar will be more visible and the display on the steering wheel has also been modified.

On the other hand, one of the worst elements of F1 22 was its much maligned physics. While Codemasters’ games have often tended to make F1 driving more and more difficult in their games, this was particularly noticeable in the last game where the slightest passage a little too pressed on a vibrator or the acceleration blow a little too messy often ended up in the wall. The overhaul of the physics of the game is therefore one of the major points of communication around this F1 23 and the cars should be more stable while keeping a realistic behavior.

F1 23 will, for the first time, feature a 35% race distance. Red flags are also making a comeback, having abandoned ship since F1 2014.

Tracks and cars

The ten Formula 1 teams will obviously be there and the F2 should always be present although no information has leaked about them. We can nevertheless expect to see them, in particular because of the My Team game mode where it is possible to recruit Formula 2 or Formula 3 drivers. Another clue, we can see the official F2 logo at the bottom from page F1 23 on SamaGametronic Arts website.

Although controversial, the supercars featured in F1 22 are set to continue the adventure (with an expanded rooster) through the Pirelli Hot Laps mode. On the other hand, those nostalgic for the classic F1s (missing since F1 21) will have to fret one more year since their return has not been mentioned.

On the circuit side, the 23 tracks scheduled on the calendar will be present with two new ones: the Losail International Circuit in Qatar and the “Sin City” Circuit in Las Vegas. Others will probably undergo some modifications since the Singapore layout is shortened from 5.065 km to 4.928 km this year, which will have the effect of increasing the number of laps of the race from 61 to 63. These changes imply that the cars will no longer be able to pass under the stands, and will instead have to take a straight line of around 400 meters along “Raffles Avenue”.

The Spanish GP, meanwhile, will have its chicane between turns 13 and 14 removed. It will be replaced by the original corner, a long, fast curve that will bring back many memories for those who played F1 Championship edition. , ie the opus of the 2006 season. Although they do not appear in the world championship this year, the circuits of Paul Ricard, Shanghai and Portimao can be played.

Champions Edition

Like every year, a special version will be sold alongside the standard edition. This year’s Champions Edition will include in-game items designed by current champion Max Verstappen (who has the luxury of appearing on the cover of the game), experience boots, and four new icons for the My Team mode. . On the other hand, if you hope for the return of champions like Sebastian Vettel or Kimi Raikkonen, it’s a cold shower. Instead, you will have the right to hire Nigel Mansell (which is not negligible) but also the fiery Kamui Kobayashi and the timeless Pastor Maldonado who should, logically, make you see all the colors. Even more surprisingly, Jamie Chadwick, who has never set foot in F1 or F2, will also be part of the Icons lot.

Musics

For this 2023 edition, speed lovers will have plenty to do in terms of electronic music since the game’s playlist has been unveiled in broad daylight. Among the artists of this opus you will find Tiësto, Skrillex, Fred Again, the Swedish House Mafia, Kaskade, Deadmau5 but also Vintage Culture, EDX, Nicky Romero, Solardo, Flume or LP Giobbi.
