Waltz is the one Final boss in Dying Light 2. Aiden worked the whole game towards this moment and as part of the final story quest “X13” he finally meets his adversary.
The preparation for the final battle takes place much earlier, even before you reach the point of no return (the game warns you that by doing so you activate the epilogue).
Stock up on the following items before heading to the finale:
- Enough weapons, but that goes without saying.
- Medicine, in the best case with some upgrades, so that the healing effect is higher.
- Regeneration Stimulant (heals a certain percentage per second) and Rage Stimulant (increases melee damage significantly) both make this fight a lot easier.
- Upgrades the grappling hook to the point where it can pull enemies in.
Then, when you reach the final stage and face Waltz, you’ll have to survive a four-phase boss fight.
First phase
First you face Waltz on a round platform. Strike him in melee and dodge his fists when he hits you with them. Like this rhythm: hit, hit, dodge, hit, hit, dodge.
The stomps on the ground are fatal. One will see him jump in the air and smash his fist into the platform, creating a blast that will knock you off your feet and, in the worst case, throw you off the platform (in which case you’ll have to climb back up). Back away as far as possible when he starts to attack.
The other attack also smashes the ground, creating trails of sparks that shoot toward you. He repeats this several times, up to five or six times. Dodge these attacks to the side until Waltz is exhausted and particularly open to hits.
Also, don’t forget the grappling hook. With this you can occasionally throw him out of step and make him vulnerable to counter hits.
If he almost lost his energy bar, he goes into the second phase.
second phase
This phase takes place on the ground. There’s fog all around and Waltz will always flee and disappear for a moment.
The easiest tactic here would be to stay in the middle and wait for Waltz to charge at Aiden. Then dodge, land a few hits, and so on.
You can also track the guy through the fog, but be careful with the chemical zones on the edges that will hurt you. Waiting and reacting better, it’s less nerve-wracking.
third phase
Use the vents to paraglide up and fight Waltz on the higher platforms.
His tactics in combat aren’t really different, mostly paying attention to the power attacks (which can’t be blocked). Every once in a while you might fall down and have to get back up.
Also, Waltz likes to change platforms, so follow him when the time comes. In close combat, always stay close and dodge when he hits, then you can also manage this phase.
fourth phase
Aiden gains superhuman strength and can jump meters far and meters high. It should be easy to track Waltz in that condition.
Stay close on his heels and use Aiden’s bare hands/claws to tear the guy apart.
Waltz takes extreme damage during this phase and it shouldn’t take you long to take him down once and for all. Stay with him and after a short while you’ll have defeated Waltz.
That was it with the final boss. Now you face the final decision that will affect the outcome of Dying Light 2. I wish you success.
