Monster Hunter World: How Kinsects Work and What is the Best Insect Glaive

At Insect Glaives in Monster Hunter World are a unique weapon for those who seek to be agile in combat and have a variety of Kinsects at their disposal.

It is one of several types of weapons available at the beginning of Monster Hunter World and, on this page, we will explain the fundamentals of how this weapon works and what the best option you can choose, at this time.

What is Insect Glaive and how does Kinsects work?

Insect Glaive is one of the fastest weapons in Monster Hunter World when compared to weapons like Charge Blade or Greatsword; you will spend more time with it in the air than on the ground.

The benefit of using Insect Glaive is simple – Glaive itself is an insect, which means that you can improve some of your stats by extracting monsters you collect.

You can equip Kinsects by buying one at Smithy and equip it together with the Insect Glaive from your room, at Smithy or any other camp.

How to use Insect Glaive in combat

Insect Glaive has fantastic evasion capabilities but also speed and, to take full advantage of its potential, you will need to obtain Attack Extract from your Kinsect and, after that, you will be able to maximize the damage you inflict.

A giant advantage in using Insect Glaive is its aerial maneuvers. To jump, you’ll need to click on R2 and X on PS4 / RT and A on Xbox. Right after that, you can also attack by pressing Circle (or B on the Xbox) or perform an Air Evasion, followed by an attack.

To create a chain of air attacks and evasions, you will need to inflict attacks constantly, keeping the stamina bar always under your eye to dodge and stay in the air. With this, you will activate the Vaulting Dance, which essentially resets your combo.

It is also a very useful way to ride a monster.

To use Kinsect, you will have to shoot at the Monster’s face by aiming (keeping the left trigger pressed) followed by Triangle / Y. This will give Kinsect a red glow.

The red glow means that your Kinsect’s attacks have increased strength. To apply this improvement to yourself, you will have to call Kinsect back to you by pressing the left trigger and then clicking Circle / B.

Once Kinsect has returned to you, you should see a glow under the bar that shows the sharpness.

This principle can be applied to different parts of the monster, giving you different color enhancements. You can find our legend right away – with the locations varying from monster to monster – with the order of each one corresponding to the numbers below your accuracy bar.

  • Red – Attack Improvement
  • Orange – Defense Improvement
  • White – Speed Improvement
  • Green – Health Improvement

Additionally, Kinsect can leave Dust, which you can attack to create a kind of effect.

These can range from completely abnormal effects to creating a creative cloud. You can activate it by attacking a monster with a Kinsect while collecting extracts, or by marking targets.

How to manage Kinsects and change elements

Go to Smithy and, under “Kinsect Management”, you can choose the “Nurture Kinsect” option that will open a brand new tree, not unlike the weapon upgrade tree, so you can check all types of Kinsects.

Each Kinsect that you can feed has several different abilities and strengths and also types of Dust that you should be aware of. Power, Speed, Dressing and Dust Effect, respectively.

The Power, Speed and Bandage types also highlight the power of the Kinsect when you are extracting it from the monster. They all maximize at level 15. The different types of Dust Effects you should keep an eye on are as follows:

  • Band Aid
  • Stun
  • Poisonous
  • Paralysis
  • Explosive

For best results when facing monsters, you must improve multiple Kinsects simultaneously in order to survive any scenario.

How to change Kinsect elements

Now that you can improve and feed your Kinsect in order to make it more powerful, you can also imbue it with a Damage of the Elements, which you can see in the list below.

  • Fire
  • Water
  • Ice
  • Tram

Depending on where you are in the game, you may not be able to unlock some of these types of elements right away.

Our recommendation for the best Insect Glaive in Monster Hunter World

Although there is definitely no better Insect Glaive, we decided to create a set of Insect Glaive that will allow you to be quick and still inflict devastating damage through some skills that your armor has.

Our Insect Glaive recommendation

The Insect Glaive you should keep in mind is called Catastrophe’s Light, with the highest raw damage to an Insect Glaive in the game, and it has a very high value for the Elderseal statistic.

Catastrophe’s Light is forged from the Ore Tree, dividing into the Nergigante Tree, which is the latest upgrade. To forge Catastrophe’s Light, you need the following:

  • Xeno’Jiva Horn x2
  • Nergigante Horn x5
  • Nergigant Talon x5
  • Nergigante Gem x1

Our best recommendation for Kinsect

We now want to equip the best Kinsect. We recommended Pseudocath III, which is derived from Culldrone III, followed by Windchopper I-III, and finally Pseudocath I-III, which manages to create a powerful Blast Damage from Dust, and still has good speed values.

:: Bloodshot Competition – We have 20 double invitations for the preview

Its final form, Pseudocath III, can be forged with the following items:

  • Elder Dragon Bone x2
  • Monster Hardbone x3
  • Firecell Stone x1

Now, we want to forge armor to match this configuration. Do you remember mentioning armor skills? Well, we’ll have to grow a lot of high rank Odogarons.

Our armor recommendation for Insect Glaive

You should start by creating the Odogaron Mail Beta, with Vambraces, Coil and Greaves, all in Alpha. The basic idea has to do with the fact that this armor has an extra place to place one more gemstone, which (if you’re lucky) can mean an even greater improvement in your attacks.

The logic behind this is to activate a skill called Critical Eye, which increases your weapon’s Affinity – essentially, this means that you can inflict an attack with a power far beyond your weapon’s standard capabilities and range.

With the Odogaron set equipped, we will then proceed to the best piece of this armor set, the Dragonking Eyepatch Alpha. This eye patch will also activate a level 2 skill called Weakness Exploit. It gives you 30% extra affinity when you attack a monster’s weak point.

Together with the + 15% Affinity you obtained from the Critical Eye skill, and the extra 30% from the Weakness Exploit, we can then push this set to the limit if you are lucky with Decorations.

There are two locations for Level 1 Decorations with this armor, one on Odogaron Mail Alpha, and one on Dragonking Eyepatch.

If we decorate the Odogaron Mail with an additional Critical Eye ability, and also insert a Weakness Exploit stone in the Dragonking Eyepatch, then the level 5 Critical Eye gives you an extra 20% Affinit, along with level 3 Weakness Exploit, which gives you 50% additional Affinity on weak points.

However, there is one more place that we can use. Do you remember all those Odogarons you cultivated? Well, with the remaining parts of the armor creation, you can create an additional Critical Eye Amulet from Smithy.

Upgrade to level 2 and you’ll get level 7 Critical Eye. If you pair it with a level 3 Weakness Exploit at its highest value, you’ll get a 30% increase in Affinity at all times, along with an additional 50% on points weak monsters.

Together with Catastrophe’s Light, which gives 651 base damage, we’re talking about 1171 damage when you’re attacking a monster’s weak point. With the added power and speed of Kinsect. It remains to be said that the Elder Dragons are probably running away with their tails between their legs.
