Even the meticulousness of a rock star does not escape every tiny one Bug: When playing the order of one Red Dead Redemption 2 minor errors and problems are simply unavoidable. As Arthur, you not only have to deal with trigger-happy cowboys, but occasionally also with comparatively unimportant bugs. Most of them are completely negligible. However, a bigger problem has crept through Rockstar’s quality control as well.
Several players report a quasi-crash of the game, in which Red Dead Redemption 2 gets stuck in the loading screen. No matter how long you wait, patience alone will not eliminate this error. We too have had the dubious pleasure of looking for solutions to this tricky situation. In this guide you will find several bug fixes and learn how to save your score. We have sorted the options according to the effort involved, so that you can work your way “top to bottom” through the various fixes until one of them will hopefully help you.
A bug in Red Dead Redemption 2 is causing your loading screen to hang? With these suggestions you can (hopefully) eliminate the problem.
Restart the console and game
The most obvious, but also the least promising solution: Quit RDR2 and shut down your console completely. Then restart your PS4 or Xbox One, start the Wild West adventure and keep your fingers crossed that Fortuna is on your side. With a lot of luck, your last saved game will load successfully this time. If that’s not the case, you can try the next fix.
Clear your console’s cache
The cache is a fast “buffer” memory in which already loaded content is stored so that it can be accessed more quickly the next time it is accessed, as it does not have to be completely reloaded. The problem: If the system stores incorrect data in this memory, it can quickly lead to a vicious circle for obvious reasons. This is typically a problem on PCs, but consoles can also be affected.
After all, it is very easy to empty the cache of your Daddelkiste. All you have to do is shut it down regularly. Then remove the power plug from the socket and the back of your console. Then wait at least 30 seconds before reconnecting the power supply and restarting your PS4 or Xbox.
That didn’t help either? Then we have to slowly bring in harder guns. So go on to the next point.

Overwrite the existing game
Since the above approaches failed, the problem seems to be linked to your most recent game status. Strangely enough, you can overwrite this despite the permanent loading screen, because: Apparently the game is not completely stuck in it. If you wait some time, you can regularly call up the RDR2 menu, although the loading screen is still displayed. Problem: You can only read individual scraps of text and you are not presented with the full menu because it is covered. Nevertheless it is possible to navigate “blind” to your saved games and to overwrite your saved games. Proceed as follows:
By the way: Here you can find out everything you need to know about saving in Red Dead Redemption 2.
Manually delete the latest Red Dead Redemption 2 game in the console memory
If overwriting and reloading the savagame in the game itself did not help, you can still delete your game status manually from the memory of the PS4 or Xbox One. To do this, go to the corresponding menu items on your console and delete both the autosave and your latest manual game status (to be on the safe side, save the Savagames again in the cloud or on a USB stick so that they are not permanently lost). This will force the game to load an older saved game, since Red Dead Redemption 2 always starts with the most recent savegame by default.
This bug fix resolved the problem for us as well as for many other affected parties.
Uninstall and reinstall / download Red Dead Redemption 2
If all of the previously mentioned suggested solutions have not worked, you cannot avoid deleting the entire game and reloading it again. Given the size of RDR2, this is a time-consuming undertaking – especially if you own the digital version of the Wild West epic. Together with all the patches that have been released in the meantime, you have to suck up over 100 GB of data.
