Payday 2 won’t launch on Steam, what can I do?
Payday 2 is a team-based heist simulation game from the developer Overkill Software, published by 505 Games. It has been available on the market since August 2013 and continues to attract many players with its storyline. However, some users have had trouble starting it. No error message is displayed, just Payday 2 does not start.
What prevents the launch of the game?
Payday 2 does not respond to user attempts to launch it for the following reasons:
Run with administrator privileges
Payday 2 requires elevated permissions to run for all components to work. Try to run the exe executable file with administrator rights.
To do this, go to the game folder, right-click on “payday2_win32_release.exe” and select Properties. In the Compatibility tab, check the “Run as administrator” option.
Apply the changes and click “OK”. Now run Payday 2 and check if the issue is resolved.
Disable full screen optimization
Sometimes the Windows 10 full screen optimization feature can interfere with certain components. Therefore, try to disable this feature.
In the installation folder, right-click on “payday2_win32_release.exe” and go to Properties. In the Compatibility tab, check the box “Disable full screen optimization”. Apply the changes and close the window.
Checking the integrity of game files
Payday 2 may not start due to some files being corrupted or missing, which may have been quarantined by your antivirus. If the game is installed on Steam, follow the steps below:
Open the Steam game client and sign in to your account. In the Library section, find PayDay 2, right-click and select Properties. In the Local Files tab, select the “Verify integrity of game files” option.
After the operation is complete, run the game and check if the issue persists
Reinstall the Visual C++ distributable package
Sometimes you can’t start PayDay 2 because a Visual C++ package is missing or corrupted. This solution first uninstalls it and then reinstalls it after downloading it from the Microsoft website.
Open Windows Settings by pressing Win + I and click on System.
Then, in the left panel, go to “Apps & features”. Find “Microsoft Visual C++…” in the list, note their versions, and remove those entries.
Make sure to remove all Microsoft VC distributed packages present here, as there are often multiple versions of an application installed.
Download Visual C++ 2015 from the Microsoft website. Once installed, download “Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 update 3”. When the package is installed, restart your computer.
