DOOM Eternal played like ‘classic’ DOOM? The curious idea of a player
With a few tricks, it is possible to transform DOOM Eternal in the original chapter of the series.
As much as DOOM Eternal and its predecessor, 2016’s DOOM, can be said to have captured the spirit of the original games with their speed, aggression, and challenging combat, the originals differ greatly. There’s no escaping this fact, but as the YouTuber’s new videos show LeonardoETC, it is possible to have the best of both worlds. Leonardo ETC has decided to remove from DOOM Eternal everything that is not found in the original chapters (i.e. DOOM 1 and 2) also increasing the speed of movement just like the first two chapters. That figure is based on the Reddit Phytor user’s calculation, in case you’re wondering.
LeonardoETC during his run did not use jumping (except where required by the level design), dodging and not even Glory Kills. The player also relies only on the weapons that appeared in the two original games, so no heavy cannon, or none of the new additions. Trying to keep things authentic, LeonardoETC disabled the front sight, while also placing the weapon model on the correct side of the screen. To top it off, it even managed to superimpose classic sound effects over DOOM Eternal’s visuals and animations. Without further ado we leave you to watch this extraordinary movie.

We remind you that DOOM Eternal is available for PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.
