Dying Light 2 | World changes based on the choices you make

Most of the time, the choices in video games don’t really matter. Of course, sometimes we have a slightly different result, but nothing too big. Techland is betting on change with Dying Light 2, where, according to them, the world changes in huge ways, depending on the choices you make.

In an interview at GamesIndustry with Techland’s chief designer Tymon Smektala, he talked about the evolution of the game, particularly how they used the first game as a kind of experiment for the things they wanted to do next.

“Initially, we were just thinking about the narrative. But with the technological advances in our new engine – the C-Engine – we realized that we could do more. So, for example, what if these decisions changed not only the narrative, but the space of the sandbox itself? We started working on it and realized that it was a powerful feeling for the player, because they made that decision and found that the world around them has changed because of that. ”

Smektala goes on to say that “They (the players) can go up to the top of the tallest building, look around and say, ‘Wow, I did that. What surrounds me is the result of my choices. This really got us very excited, and it was an idea that wasn’t designed for the project from the beginning. But about two years ago we realized that this is something that we can and should do ”.

Dying Light 2 will be released in 2020 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
