FIFA 21 does not support cross play within the same console family

Electronic Arts announced this via Twitter Fifa 21 does not support cross play. It is no big surprise that players on the PC, PlayStation and Xbox cannot compete against each other. Earlier versions of Fifa did not support that possibility either. More striking, however, is that there is also no cross-play within the same console family.

Whoever plays the game on the PlayStation 4 cannot compete against players on the PlayStation 5. The same applies to the Xbox One and Xbox Series X. The announcement is a big surprise, since FIFA 21 is a free upgrade for the PlayStation 5. and Xbox Series X.

So players can upgrade to the next generation version of Fifa 21 for free and bring their progression into FIFA 21 Ultimate Team and Volta Football. However, once you do that, you will no longer be able to play it against your friends who only have a PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.

The initial reactions of the fans on Twitter show little understanding for EA’s choice. The Fifa 21 release for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One is scheduled for October 9.
