In a recent interview, the director Naoki Yoshida claimed that Square Enix did not “consider publishing” Final Fantasy XIV up Xbox Game Pass.
The launch of the MMORPG on Xbox One is under discussion right now, and the arrival of the new console version has been announced at X019.
Since then, no updates have been shared from Microsoft or Square Enix, but there is a possibility that the game will arrive directly on the Xbox Series X. The title is reportedly in development for PS5 as well.
“I haven’t really thought about releasing FFXIV on Game Pass,” Yoshida told Twinfinite. “This is because FFXIV itself is a game based on a subscription model.”
Yoshida had already made it clear that he has a good relationship with the Xbox boss, and this could help launch the MMO title on the platform.
The director said: “I hope that one day Phil and I will create new opportunities together that will allow players around the world to enjoy FFXIV even more.”
Meanwhile, Final Fantasy VII Remake will arrive tomorrow, April 10, on PS4.
