While the latest games in the Gears of War series are reaching the PC, the first releases of the franchise have never been released on the platform. Apart from the first game. PC gamers have never had a chance to play Gears of War 2, Gears of War 3 oa Gears of War Judgment. However, things are about to change as all of these games are now fully playable through the Xbox 360 emulator, Xenia.
From what we know so far, Microsoft does not plan to release any remakes of these GOW games. Therefore, PC gamers can only experience them via the Xenia emulator. Of course, you will also need an X360 gamepad as it is not possible to use the mouse / keyboard pairing.
YouTube user Andrew Russell introduced Gears of War 3 and Gears of War: Judgment running on the latest version of Xenia Canary, the experimental version of Xenia.
The latest version of Xenia Canary has fixed numerous bugs and graphical problems. In addition, both Gears of War 3 and Gears of War Judgment can now be played from start to finish.
Unfortunately, however, the emulator runs these games at their original speed, which is 30 fps. Contrary to what we have seen with the RPCS3 PS3 emulator, there is currently no patch capable of unlocking framerates. Clearly, playing the two titles at 60fps returns a better experience, but now fans can finally get their hands on two highly rated games in the series, albeit at a lower framerate.
