The two new Google smartphones will be available for pre-order from October 6, so expect a presentation on the same day, and they will be commercially available from October 13. This information seems likely to us since the date corresponds to the launch of Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, October 19, 2021.

Although we don’t know the technical specifications of the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, Google has already unveiled their design at the Google I/O conference. If the lines are similar to the current generation, the integration of the photo module has been revised. It is now one with the frame of the phone and seems more robust.

Some rumors evoke the presence of a very bright panel, above 1,000 nits, a 120 Hz screen, a new, more efficient haptic engine and a new generation Tensor processor.

The new Pixel 6a is (already) the victim of a big security problem

The launch of a smartphone is always a special moment for a brand, especially when, like Apple or Google, you only offer one or two models per year. It is therefore necessary to take care of the smallest details and to have tested all the potential errors so that the latter are already a distant memory when the phone is shipped for the first time.

But some launches feel more like a nightmare than a fairy tale. This is particularly the case with the debut of Google’s Pixel 6a, the affordable version of its Pixel 6 released at the end of last year. According to two reports that come to us from India, the phone suffers from a serious security flaw.

A software flaw still not fixed

According to many owners, all fingerprints would be able to unlock the phone, making it vulnerable. This flaw is believed to be caused by a software glitch within the phone’s operating system, and although they haven’t officially confirmed it, Google is reportedly already investigating this major issue.

Reassuring point for Google, not all phones are affected by this problem. This reinforces the idea that it is probably a software problem. But the concern is not to be taken lightly. Indeed, the Google phone has been launched in 13 countries, and there are already 7 incident reports that have accumulated on the brand’s complaints offices.

An update should arrive over the weekend, it has already proven itself in Japan and it will be launched in the coming days in all countries where the Pixel 6a is on sale. For the moment the best thing to do is to deactivate the screen unlock with the fingerprint. The phone will automatically ask for the secret code to open and this solution has no security flaws.

Google and the Pixel: already 7 years of history

As a reminder, Google entered the smartphone market after years of waiting and hesitation. The brand, founded by Larry Page and Sergei Brin, offered the “Pixel” to the public in 2015. Very quickly, the phone stood out for its high photo quality and its very pure OS, which did not use any Android overlay.

In 2021, Google marketed the Pixel 6 which was a real success. With software solutions like the “magic eraser” to erase unwanted parts of photos, the phone has come into the race for “smartphone of the year” alongside the latest iPhone and Galaxy S.

With the Pixel 6a, Google offers a much more affordable version of its flagship phone. Today the Pixel 6a is available for €459.

Pixel 6a gets Android 13 in beta

Freshly marketed by Google, the Pixel 6a is an alternative to mid-range smartphones under €500. And if it is not without compromise, the device hits the mark, thanks in particular to a neat photo component and balanced performance. The smartphone was released at the end of July running Android 12, the latest stable version of the operating system available, but will be stepping up a gear very soon.

As a Pixel, the 6a is front and center to benefit from Google’s latest upgrades. And less than a week after its launch, the device has just appeared in the list of smartphones eligible for the installation of the Android 13 beta. The manipulation to access it is the same as for other compatible smartphones ( Pixel since generation 4 and some models from partner brands). So, once you are logged in to your Google account, you just have to go to the Android Beta page, select your smartphone there, and then download the upgrade to your mobile. Remember, however, that this is not a final version of the operating system, and that it is likely to encounter some malfunctions.

Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro: the leaked release date, it would be for October

When will the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro be released? When Google made smartphones official at Google I/O last May, it was content with a vague “this fall”.

Jon Prosser adds that pre-orders would start on October 6, meaning that the announcement conference would take place on the same day. It is recalled that in 2021, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro were announced on October 19 and were put up for pre-order at that time. The dates given are credible, given that Google has always had the habit of unveiling its new smartphones during the tenth month of the year. However, it may still be a little early for the company to have already set the exact date.

As a reminder, the Pixel 7 and the Pixel 7 Pro were unveiled last May by Google during the Google I/O. Since this formalization took place only to pull the rug out from under the increasingly numerous leaks. As for technical innovations, we expect a small evolution, especially in terms of photography and Google Tensor. All in all, we shouldn’t have a chasm between the Pixel 6 and the Pixel 7.

Two terminals are expected, but Google could have a little surprise in store for us with an Ultra model. In 2023, the company also plans to release its first tablet in a long time: the Pixel Tablet. We will certainly know more during the smartphone announcement conference. Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro: a slightly advanced release date is looming

Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro: a slightly advanced release date is looming

As a reminder, the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro will broadly take up the foundations of the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. We still expect a new Tensor 2 chip, an aluminum photo block or even a slightly smaller screen for the Pixel 7, going from 6.4 to 6.3 inches.

Pixel 7 pre-order and release dates

After discovering the Pixel 7 design in May during Google I/O 2022, little information has revolved around its future high-end smartphones. The latest news, we learned at the end of July some details around the cameras of the two models thanks to the fourth beta of Android 13. Google would have favored changes for the front camera, but also the telephoto lens of the Pro model.

Regarding the release date, it is suggested that the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro will be available a week later, on Thursday October 13, 2022. At the end of the article, Jon Prosser recalls that “Google has a habit of moving the dates from time to time”, thus emphasizing that if this happened, he would inform Internet users directly.
