How to deactivate Upday on your Samsung mobile and stop receiving news notifications

If you have a Samsung mobile, you may know Upday, a news service that comes pre-installed in much of Samsung’s mid-range. In case you are not too convinced, today we will see how can you remove upday so that it does not send you notifications or appear on the home screen.

Upday somewhat replaces Flipboard, which was formerly included in Samsung phones. Thus, it appears when swiping the home screen to the far left and also sends you various notifications during the day of important or not so important news.

What is Upday?

Lets start by the beginning. What is Upday and why is it on your mobile? In the vast majority of cases, you should refer the second question to Samsung, as it is who has decided to include this application pre-installed on several of its models.

Upday is a news application founded in Germany that does not write its own content, but instead collects them from different online media. The Spanish version includes news from El País, El Confidencial, Noticias Telecinco, 20 Minutos, Radio Cope, Vozpópuli, ABC and an endless number of other media.

In the Upday app it only shows a small resume of each news item, and when you touch a news card, the page with the original source opens in your mobile browser. You also have the option to save to read later, mark that you like or share it.

How to remove Upday from startup

Upday is integrated by default at the start of Samsung mobiles, so that when you swipe to the left it ends up showing. This can be annoying and therefore it is understandable that you want to disable it. To do this you need to go to the main screen of your mobile and do a long touch anywhere empty (that is, don’t do it on an icon or widget).

The preview mode of the pages on your home screen will then open. Swipe the screens moving your finger from left to right on them, until you get to the left completely.

An Upday screen should then appear. Above all is a switch you must deactivate to remove Upday from your home screen. The application will continue to exist and you could continue to receive news notifications (read on to remove them), but it will not appear on the home screen and you can swipe without fear.

How to turn off Upday notifications

If what bothers you is the Upday notifications but you want it to remain on the home screen, you can also do that. For this you need to open Upday first and then tap on the menu button, represented with three points vertically.

Upday does not have a menu of options, but these are grouped in your user profile. So, in the menu choose the first option, My profile, where you can choose what type of news interests you and deactivate notifications.

The section of your profile includes the fonts used in the application and gives you the possibility to log in with Google or Facebook to personalize the experience. Slide the screen down to the bottom, where you will find the section Notifications.

Now yes, you will see that there are two options available: Last minute and personalized notifications. If you are okay with receiving notifications for breaking news, leave that option enabled. If you want Upday not to send you any notifications, then disable both options.

How to disable Upday completely

If you really don’t want Upday to be on your mobile, you can turn it off completely. As it is a pre-installed application, it cannot be completely removed, but it can be deactivated so that it neither appears nor can be opened. To achieve this you need to open Settings Android and go to the section Applications.

In the application list, look for upday. The list is generally in alphabetical order, so it shouldn’t be difficult to find it considering its position in the alphabet, and it’s usually near the bottom of the list.

Press the button Deactivate, accept the confirmation that appears, and Upday will be history. It won’t bother you with notifications again and it won’t appear in the start menu. If you opted for this method, you don’t need to do the other two.
