A few days ago we saw how Microsoft was going to interrupt the arrival of driver updates due to less activity during the Christmas period. Patches that arrive independently as if they were special updates. And both these patches and the aforementioned updates they involve an installation process that we are now going to explain.
To download a security patch the process is very simple, but to access the “Optional Updates” you have to click a few more times until entering and marking the patches that we want to install, but do not worry, it is not a complicated process.
Install security patches
Windows security patches and driver updates are files released for the purpose of fix malfunctions and cover vulnerabilities discovered in the operating system, either by faulty updates or discovered threats.
Security patches are released more or less periodically (We already know the “Patch Tuesday”) as a cumulative update in which various errors and bugs are corrected. A few patches that are installed as follows.
The first step is none other than accessing the menu “Setting” Windows by clicking on the cogwheel-shaped icon that we find at the bottom left, in the Windows 10 start menu.
Once inside the menu “Setting” we must look for the section “Update and security” and when pressing the corresponding menu opens we select the option “Windows Update” in the left sidebar.
We will see how updates already available can appear or if this is not the case, they can appear just by clicking on the button “Search for updates”. The system locates if there is something pending and we just have to click on “Install Now” and follow the process.
The update will take a few minutes and when it finishes, you will have to restart the computer to apply the changes.
These are the usual updates and patches, but if you look closely, you will see that under that section there is another one called “Optional updates”. This section includes those patches for the drivers and components of our equipment that we must install manually.
If it appears, it is because we have pending updates. Once we access, we can check the available ones and select the ones we want to install. The process does not require a reboot, unlike security patches, and is faster
