Intel has recently introduced its 10th generation chips to almost its entire line-up of laptops and soon it will be the turn of desktops.
Today, in fact, the company announced the arrival of the processors Comet Lake-S in its Core i9, i7, i5 and i3 variants. The top of the range of this new wave of chips will be the new one Intel Core i9-10900K, equipped with 10 cores, 20 threads, 125W TDP and a maximum achievable speed of 5.3GHz: according to the words of Intel, it will be the fastest gaming processor in the world.
This top of the top will be priced at $ 488 but, of course, it’s not the only chip coming: for example, we also have theIntel Core i7-10700K, sold for $ 374, equipped with 8 cores, 16 threads, a base speed of 3.8GHz, upgradeable up to 5.1GHz and the economical Core i5-10600K with 6 cores, 12 threads, 4.1GHz base speed that can be increased up to 4.8GHz, available for $ 262.
These speeds are achievable thanks to new Intel technologies, Turbo Boost 3.0 and, above all, the Thermal Velocity Boost (currently exclusive to the i9 chip), which increases the clock speed when the processor is below 70 degrees Celsius.
Unfortunately, we are informed that Intel, for these new CPUs, will also change the physical conformation of the socket: this means that these new Comet Lake processors will not be compatible with previous motherboards. Coffee Lake, so you’ll want to keep this in mind if you’re planning to upgrade your system.
Despite this, we’re talking about impressive technologies, and we’re sure PC gamers will take them seriously if they’re going to dive into the next-gen with great fanfare. What do you think about it?
