‘iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs Max and iPhone Xr do not get a fast charger’

There is little we do not know about the new iPhones to be announced later today, however one of the first rumors unfortunately seems to be wrong. According to the usually knowledgeable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and 9to5Mac, the iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs Max and iPhone Xr will not come with a fast charger.

No fast charger for iPhone Xs series

In the box of the new models will unfortunately still be a slow 5W charger with a USB-A cable. That means you also still need a USB-C cable or adapter to connect to any of the recent MacBooks, as these models only have USB-C connections.

The iPhone Xs models will support fast charging as this option is also present on the existing models. You will have to purchase a new and more powerful charger to take advantage of this feature.

We’re still hoping Apple will eventually make the switch to USB-C, but the iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs Max, and iPhone Xr won’t change that just yet. According to Kuo, the future iPad Pro models will be equipped with a USB-C port, so you can also use fast chargers and cables from other brands.

In addition, an unconfirmed source has told 9to5Mac that the larger 6.5-inch iPhone Xs Max has a weight of 208 grams, which is comparable to the 5.5-inch iPhone 8 Plus. Both models are expected to be about the same size, with the iPhone Xs Max featuring a heavier stainless steel frame instead of the iPhone 8 Plus’s lighter aluminum.

Finally, the Apple Watch Series 4 would be powered by a 64-bit processor. The iPhone, iPad, and Mac processors are all 64-bit, while the Apple Watch’s S3-soc is still 32-bit. Apple may change that with the S4-sip. The new models will keep the design of the existing models, while the screens will be larger thanks to narrower bezels.

The new iPhones and Apple Watch Series 4 models will be announced by Apple on Wednesday, September 12 at the annual event. The event kicks off at 7:00 PM Dutch time in the Steve Jobs Theater. The presentation can be followed by means of a live stream.
