In a triple partnership between Sony Pictures Television, producer Hivemind Entertainment and Square Enix, a live-action series from Final Fantasy XIV was announced on Thursday (27), but without setting a release date or streaming platform. . Hivemind is the same company behind the adaptation of The Witcher that is on its way to Netflix.
The production based on Square’s MMORPG will tell an original story set in Eorzea, the online world of Final Fantasy XIV; there are no details about the plot or the characters inserted in it. In a statement sent to the press, the parties involved explain that the series will explore “a clash between magic and technology on a journey to bring peace to a conflicted land”.
As the project is in its embryonic stage, there is no information about the cast. The story’s writers, however, are already known: Ben Lustig and Jake Thornton, who also take responsibility as executive producers.

Although the series is based specifically on Final Fantasy XIV, the idea, according to the official statement, is to explore various elements of the franchise as a whole, which includes, of course, the Chocobos, present en masse in the MMORPG and other titles in the saga. And yes, Cid will also show up!
