Nintendo Switch: No new version can be expected that soon
A new hardware revision of the Nintendo Switch is not to be expected anytime soon, says Nintendo of Americas Reggie Fils-Aime.
Among other things, he spoke to Forbes about this and the important Christmas business.
“We are currently in our second Christmas business and my goal is for the gray and neon variants of the Switch to maintain their momentum in the market,” he says.
“There have been systems, whether our own or those of our competitors, that used this tactic a little later in the life cycle,” he adds. “We are currently focusing on the current version of the Nintendo Switch with the Joy-Con and all of its options.”
As Fils-Aime points out, the company is doing best, not least because of the sales success of Pokémon Let’s Go and Super Smash Bros Ultimate. The period around Black Friday, Cyber Monday and the remaining days until Christmas are extremely important for Nintendo.
“And the days after Christmas are also important to us, when consumers redeem vouchers or bring back unwanted gifts in order to get things like a Nintendo Switch,” he explains. “It’s an ongoing process. We want to make sure that we can continue to grow in the Christmas season and in the first quarter of the calendar year as well.”
In October, the Wall Street Journal reported that a new hardware revision of the Nintendo Switch could appear in the second half of 2019.
