Pokémon Go Charge Up! event research quest: this is how you complete each assignment and field research explained
Charge Up! is the first event in Pokémon Go that puts Electric Pokémon in the spotlight!
Not only does this event contain exclusive ones field research assignments which you have to complete, there is also the Charge Up! research quest. However, since this is a timed research quest, you must complete it before the event ends.
With Charge Up! also comes the release of Gen 5 Pokémon Tynamo, along with its evolutions, the Therian Forme from Thundurus and the Mega Evolution for Manectric.

‘Charge Up!’ quest explained step by step in Pokémon Go
Below are all assignments and rewards for the Charge Up! research quest. This tutorial does contain spoilers so if you want to keep the surprise, we recommend skipping this section.
It is important to remember that this is a timed research quest, so it is only available during the Charge Up! event itself. This quest will disappear forever when the event ends, and with it any rewards you can earn. So if you want a specific reward, you will have to make sure you get it on time.
‘Charge Up!’ step 1 of 4
- Catch 5 Electric Pokémon – a chance to catch Pikachu
- Evolve a Pokémon – a chance to catch Voltorb
- Use Power up 5 times on a Pokémon – 10 PokéBalls
Rewards: Unova Stone, 10 Mega Ampharos Candy, and a chance to catch Tynamo

- Do 3 curveballs in a row – chance to catch Magnemite
- Do 3 Curveball throws – chance to catch Magnemite
- Do 3 Great throws – chance to catch Magnemite
Rewards: Sinnoh Stone, 10 Mega Manectric Candy, and a chance to catch Magneton

Field research assignments and everything you need to know about the Charge Up! event in Pokémon Go
Field research assignments that are exclusive to the Charge Up! event can be obtained by visiting PokéStops during the event. Once you have these assignments, they will be saved and you can complete them at any time. Once you have them, you don’t have to worry about the end of the event, but you won’t be able to get any more afterwards!
Here are the field research assignments and the associated rewards for the Charge Up! event:
- Catch 25 Electric Pokémon reward – chance to catch Tynamo
- Catch 5 Electric Pokémon reward – chance to catch Pikachu, Voltorb or Joltik
- Use Power up 5 times on a Pokémon reward – 3 Great Balls
- Use Power up 7 times on a Pokémon reward – 10 Gengar, Gyarados or Pidgeot Mega Candy
- Use Power up 10 times on a Pokémon reward – 10 Ampharos or Manectric Mega Candy
Charge Up! also brings Tynamo and its associated evolutions Eelektrik and Eelektross to Pokémon Go. So we are one step closer to a full Gen 5 Pokédex.
Tynamo will be available to catch in the wild, along with many other Electric Pokémon such as Electrike and Stunfisk. In one star raids you will be able to compete against Voltorb, Shinx, Blitzle and Klink.
You can also encounter Alolan Raichu, Alolan Graveler, Magneton and Ampharos in three-star raids. To top it all off, Thundurus’ Therian Forme also makes its debut in five star raids.
And don’t forget that you can use a remote raid pass to participate in raids!
Manectric’s Mega Evolution will also be introduced in Mega Raids this week. You will also be able to fight Mega Houndoom and Abomasnow during the event. So now is the perfect time to collect Mega Candy and add this Pokémon to your Mega Pokédex if you haven’t already.

Charge Up! start and end date in Pokémon Go explained
Charge Up! is an in-game event for Pokémon Go that showcases Electric Pokémon.
Both the Charge Up! timed research and field research assignments are only available during the event. This runs from Tuesday March 16 10 am until Monday March 22 8 pm in the evening.
The Charge Up! research quest consists of four steps, each with individual assignments. You get rewards for every assignment and step you complete. So if you want to earn all the rewards, make sure you get the Charge Up! research quest completed before the end of the event, because like all other timed research, this questline will disappear forever when the event is over.
