So, bring your sleeping bag and terms – it’s time to camp!

When do you unlock Pokémon Camp in Pokémon Sword and Shield?

If you want to set up Pokémon Camp, you need Camping Gear first.

Fortunately, your mother (mother in the game, not in real life) will give you a set when you leave the train station from Wedgehurst to Motostoke for the first time.

When you receive Camping Gear, you will unlock the ‘Pokémon Camp’ option in the X menu.

You also won’t have to wait long to try it out as your next stop is the Wild Area.

How to set up Pokémon Camp in Pokémon Sword and Shield

You can set up Pokémon Camp whenever you walk through the Wild Area, on most roads and even in some cities in the Galar region.

Find an area that seems like a good place for your camping trip and open the menu with X.

From here, select the Pokémon Camp option and your tent will be set up for you. You won’t have to worry about nails!

Now that your tent is set up, you can play freely with your Pokémon or cook a delicious curry.

Throughout your travels in the Galar region, you will encounter NPCs who have also set up Pokémon Camps. You can use these Pokémon Camps as if they were yours.

How to cook curry at Pokémon Camp in Pokémon Sword and Shield

The main reason for creating a Pokémon Camp is to cook delicious curry for you and your Pokémon.

Curries have a variety of different effects for your Pokémon, such as healing them, giving them more EXP or making them more friendly. It is worth experimenting with the different ingredients and discovering all kinds of curries that you can cook.

Before you start cooking, however, make sure you gather ingredients and berries.

Berries can be found easily by shaking trees that are scattered across Galar. Each tree will have a different variety of berries, allowing you to create a good collection.

Certain ingredients, such as the Fancy Apple, can be found in the Wild Area. It may take a while before you find all the ingredients you need. The Fancy Apple, for example, may be hidden on the ground around a regular tree.

You can check which ingredients you have already collected by selecting the ‘Check ingredients’ option from the Cooking menu in your Pokémon Camp.

Once you’ve gathered enough ingredients, it’s time to set up camp and start cooking.

Press X to open the Camp menu and select the option ‘Cooking,’ followed by ‘Start cooking.’

The first step in cooking curry is to select the ingredients.

By reading the description of the berries and ingredients, you’ll have a better idea of which ones to use. Including a variety of different berries is also a good idea, as it will guarantee the best effects for your Pokémon.

Once you’re ready to start cooking, press the + button.

In fact, cooking curry can be divided into three stages.

The first is to stir the flames, ensuring that the curry is cooked at the right temperature. To do this, press A or move the Joy-Con up and down.

The second step is to stir the curry, turning it on the right stick or moving your Joy-Con in a circle. Try not to get too excited when you touch the curry – you don’t want to spill it!

The third and final step is to place your heart in it, which is not as strange as it looks.

A yellow ball with a heart will appear at the bottom of the screen and, around the curry, two circles will appear – one dark green and the other lighter inside it. A third circle will start to move between them, approaching the curry pot.

Pressing A or moving the Joy-con downwards, sends the yellow heart to the curry when the moving circle enters the green circles.

It is very similar to the Nice, Great and Excellent releases in Pokémon Go.

And that’s how you create curry, ready now to be devoured by you and your Pokémon.

After you have eaten the curry, you will be informed of exactly what you did – Spicy Apple Curry, for example; you will receive a flavor rating and also the effects it had on your Pokémon.

The Taste Rating – the flavor classification – depends on the difficulty of the recipe and the ingredients you put in the curry.

All new recipes you create will be added to Curry Dex, which can be accessed through the Pokémon Camp Cooking menu.

How to play with your Pokémon in Pokémon Camp in Pokémon Sword and Shield

You can also play with the Pokémon in your party after you have set up Pokémon Camp.

You only have to press A to call a Pokémon or Y to remove a toy and get its attention.

Once you have a Pokémon’s attention, you can play with them using balls or the Poké Toy. You can also use your Joy-Con to easily wave the Poké Toy and capture the attention of a Pokémon at the rear of the camp.

You also have the option of pressing down on the control stick to crouch your trainer, in order to get closer to smaller Pokémon.

Pokémon Camp multiplayer in Pokémon Sword and Shield explained

You can enjoy the multiplayer of Pokémon Camp using local communications or connecting to the Internet.

Although you do not have to pay to use local communications, there is a subscription fee to use the Nintendo Switch Online service. If you want to use Pokémon Camp on the Internet, then you will have to pay for that subscription.

Once you’ve decided how you want to connect with other players, it’s time to find them.

As you explore the Wild Area, you’ll be able to find a tent.

This tent means that another player has set up a Pokémon Camp. If you interact with the tent, you and a Pokémon from your party can enter the camp.

A maximum of four players can relax simultaneously in the same tent, cooking curry together and playing with each other’s Pokémon.
