[REVIEW] : iPhone 7 and Redmi Note 8 dominate OLX cellphone sales below R$1,000

Buying used cell phones can be a good way to get a good cheap device. Years after their initial launches, Apple’s iPhone 7 and Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 8 dominate the OLX sales rankings among smartphones for less than R$1,000. Even older, these models still offer solid performance for today, especially in basic daily use.

iPhone 7 calls attention to the longevity of iOS

The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus take the top two spots in the OLX rankings, costing an average of R$804 and R$888, respectively. Almost five years after the initial launch, these smartphones are still highly sought after by Brazilian consumers who want to enter the Apple ecosystem.

As much as the design is dated, the iPhone 7 still delivers good performance thanks to the A10 Fusion chip. Due to the 64-bit architecture, the component is capable of running major apps from the App Store and continues to receive system updates to this day, including the latest iOS 15.

The devices also have a Touch ID fingerprint reader on the physical home button for greater security, NFC and IP67 certification, which guarantees resistance to water and dust. These features are often attractive, as they are also present in current high-end smartphones.

However, the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus lack battery life. Even in basic activities, smartphones do not last even half a day unplugged. This tends to get worse in models with a long service life, which is the case with used devices sold at OLX.

Redmi Note 8 should not keep updating Android

Representing Android devices, the Redmi Note 8 appears in third place in OLX’s best-selling mobile phone ranking up to R$1,000. According to the e-commerce platform’s survey, the used device can be found at the average price of R$ 773.

The Redmi Note 8 is a few years younger than the iPhone 7, but it also has its pros and cons compared to Apple’s smartphone. Launched in 2022, the Xiaomi phone arrived with a rear-mounted 48-megapixel quad camera, a capable Snapdragon 665 processor, a 6.3-inch LCD screen and a 4,000mAh battery.

In theory, this model should suffice for less demanding users who only need access to social networks and web browsers. However, there are some issues that can irritate even these people, such as bugs that affect Wi-Fi connection quality and cases of “smudges” on the screen. As the Redmi Note 8 sold at OLX is used, the chances of the smartphone having one of these issues are high.

The Snapdragon 665 screen and chip are still good by today’s quality standards. However, the Android system of the Redmi Note 8 should no longer receive updates beyond version 11. In this respect, buying a second-hand iPhone is more advantageous, since Apple generally updates the iOS of its devices for many years.

Revenue Auction has 4,000 Xiaomi cellphones, iPhones, Xbox Series X and more

A IRS has a new auction going on, with lots including cellphones Xiaomi, iPhoneconsoles Xbox series X and PS5, in addition to other computer elements. Unlike other auctions conducted by the entity, in which it is possible to find phones in lots at very low initial bids (R$300), in this session most electronic auctions start at R$85,000. – but include hundreds of products, with a good option for resellers.

The Internal Revenue Service expects to collect at least R$8.2 million from the auction, including R$2.58 million in mobile phones alone. The main lots are in Cascavel (PR). It should be remembered that auction managers must be able to collect the goods on the spot, since income does not deliver. Tenders are open until August 9, 2022 at 9 p.m..

In total, there are around 3,800 Xiaomi phones available in the released bundles, including Redmi Note 9, Poco X3 models, among others. Interested parties will also find around 300 iPhones, as well as Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch consoles.

Seized Xbox Series X could be resold

It should be remembered that finding an Xbox Series X in Brazil is not such a simple task. In June, Microsoft even announced that the console would still take time to return to market after shortages and high demand, and advised fans not to buy from resellers, who charge exorbitant prices.

The truth is that the company is facing a global fight against scalpers, who are running out of inventory of the product to resell at much more expensive values. Additionally, the shortage of chips has had a huge impact on the production and distribution of consoles around the world.

How does the federal auction work?

The federal tax office organizes auctions with products seized for being in an irregular situation in the country or for having been abandoned – the procedure has proven to be extremely profitable and has already brought in more than R$2.6 billion over the past few years. last 10 years. Auctions are conducted via the electronic auction system (SLE), developed by Serpro.

It is possible to buy products as a natural person (PF) or legal person (PJ), and certain lots are blocked for purchase by individuals. When completing an auction as an individual, the individual may not resell the item.
