[REVIEW] : PlayStation Plus, Game Pass: Our comparison to see more clearly

In France, the PlayStation Plus offer is divided into 3 formulas. Each formula brings its own set of advantages and requires its own financial investment. Indeed, at the end of June 2022, users will be able to choose the Essential option (the PS Plus as we know it with two games included each month and the possibility of online play), Extra (the advantages of the ‘Essential plus access to a catalog of 400 PS4 and PS5 software), and Premium (the additions of Essential and Extra, with the possibility of playing PSOne, PS2, PS3, PSP and to access the latest releases for a limited time).

PlayStation Plus April: here are the games offered this month

A few days ago, Sony lifted the veil on the future of PlayStation Plus with three new formulas, now truly competing with Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass. However, it seems that the overhaul of the service will not be effective until June. Subscribers should therefore not lose their bearings for another two months.

This includes the announcement of the games offered at PlayStation Plus. For the month of April, Sony has 3 incredible games in store for us, here you go.

No PS5 Exclusives This Month

The first title offered offers a PS4 version and a PS5 version. This is Hood: Outlaws & Legends, an online multiplayer game that contains both PvP and PvE modes. Inspired by the much more stylized Robin Hood legend, the goal is to rob the rich to help the poor. The bigger the fortresses you loot, the bigger the treasure.

The second game is the PS4 title SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated. In this 3D platform game, you play as many characters from the famous eponymous cartoon such as Bob, Patrick and Sandy, but also Carlos and Plankton. You can also take advantage of the online or local multiplayer mode, which allows you to compete against a second person.

Finally, the last title offered is Slay the Spire, a roguelike-like card game. In this game, you will have to face powerful creatures using turn-based combat mechanics, in order to climb the floors of this cursed tower.

How to get these games?

As a reminder, PlayStation Plus is a subscription service offered by Sony on its consoles giving you access each month to free downloadable games, often three or four in number, and allows you to play multiplayer games online. The basic subscription is available at the price of 8.99€ per month, 24.99€ per quarter or 59.99€ per year, and will remain so even after the arrival of the Extra and Premium formulas.

New PlayStation Plus: will the collection of games offered on PS5 disappear?

Available since the launch of the PS5, the PlayStation Plus Collection won’t be going away after the service’s revamp slated for June. Great news.

In June, the PlayStation Plus evolves. The service will absorb PlayStation Now and be available in three formulas. The idea is to always offer more features from the moment you agree to pay more (from 8.99 to 16.99 €). Since the formalization, some have wondered if the PlayStation Plus Collection, offered to owners of a PS5, is about to disappear. Good news: it won’t.

In a tweet posted on March 29, journalist Jonathon Dornbush said, “For those wondering, PlayStation has confirmed to IGN that the PlayStation Plus Collection will not be removed with the changes. It will remain a benefit for all PS5 players subscribed to PlayStation Plus. »

The PlayStation Plus Collection isn’t going away

Available since the release of the PlayStation 5 in November 2020, the PlayStation Plus Collection is a bonus that allows you to play – for free – some PS4 classics on the most recent console. When it was announced by Sony, it was seen as a clever way to inflate the launch catalog. For some owners, this is a godsend to (re)discover certain sure values at a lower cost (you just have to be a PlayStation Plus subscriber).

It would therefore have been inappropriate to withdraw this small benefit to reserve it for those who will pay more to move to the second level of the new PlayStation Plus. Titled PlayStation Plus Extra, it effectively adds a catalog of around 400 PS4 and PS5 games. It will cost €13.99 per month, compared to €8.99 for the basic plan.

Sony reveals its answer to Game Pass, does it have a chance against Xbox?

For months, the craziest rumors have been circulating offline concerning Sony’s famous “Project Spartacus”, which was intended to thwart Microsoft’s weapon of mass seduction: the Xbox Game Pass. The rumors ended on March 29, 2022, with the revelation on the official PlayStation blog of the exact nature of this new product made in Sony: a merger of current subscriptions to which is added a tier system of subscriptions.

“The new Extra and Premium tiers represent a major evolution for PlayStation Plus. With these tiers, we ensure that the hundreds of games we offer include the best content that sets us apart. At launch, we plan to include games like Death Stranding, God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Mortal Kombat 11, and Returnal.”

Subscriptions remove any notion of “PlayStation Now”, in favor of three degrees of PS Plus. The biggest news is that from now on, whatever subscription you choose, it will include automatic access to online multiplayer.

• PlayStation Plus Essential (€8.99 per month/€24.99 per quarter/€59.99 per year) offers the same advantages as the current PlayStation Plus, namely two downloadable games per month, access to online multiplayer, storage on the cloud of saved games and additional discounts.
