[REVIEW] : The Nubia Red Magic 7 Pro packs an under-display camera, RGB lighting, and more.

Nubia has just released its latest gaming-oriented flagship smartphone globally. It features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, 16GB of RAM, and a 5,000mAh fast-charging battery. It also has an uninterrupted edge-to-edge display thanks to its under-display selfie camera.

After being exclusive to China for the past two months, Nubia has just announced the global availability of its new flagship gaming smartphone.

The Nubia Red Magic 7 Pro features Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset paired with 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 512GB of non-expandable UFS 3.1 storage. All of this is kept cool by a built-in 20,000 rpm fan.

You also get an impressive 6.8-inch AMOLED display with 1080 x 2400 resolution, 120Hz refresh rate and 960Hz touch sampling rate, so it should be smooth and responsive. Worthy of note here is the 16MP under-display camera, which allows the phone to have an almost bezel-less display with no notches or cutouts.

The rest of the camera system is fairly unexciting, as you’d expect from a gaming-focused phone. It has a triple rear camera array consisting of a 64-megapixel main shooter, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera, and a 2-megapixel macro sensor.

The international version of the Red Magic 7 Pro can charge at 65W, while the Chinese model boosts it to 135W to fill its 5,000mAh battery in 15 minutes.

On the software side, the phone is running Nubia’s out-of-the-box Redmagic 5.0 skin, which is based on Android 12. Other notable features include shoulder triggers with 500Hz touch sampling rate, chip Custom Red Core 1 that handles haptics and audio, RGB lighting and even a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Nubia’s Red Magic 7 Pro will launch globally on April 27, with an early sale scheduled for April 22. The Obsidian Black model comes with 256GB of internal storage and will retail for $799, while the Supernova model, which features a transparent back and 512GB of storage, will cost $899.

The Nubia Red Magic 7 Pro gaming smartphone is finally available internationally almost without compromise

A few weeks ago, Nubia announced the marketing of its new gaming smartphone, the Red Magic 7 Pro, which has the particularity of having a camera under the screen, on the front for the most complete experience possible in terms of display. In addition, in order to offer the best possible performance, it is equipped with the new Red Core 1 chip which optimizes the responsiveness of the sensitive keys, improves the vibrations to make them as realistic as possible, helps lighting effects in games, but also sound effects. Of course, we can count on the presence of a processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 to handle everything else. There is up to 18GB of RAM with the option to go up to 24GB using the virtual RAM feature. Count on a maximum storage space of 512 GB. Note that this is the first model in this range to integrate the under-display camera technology that can be seen on the ZTE Axon 20, the ZTE Axon 30 and on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3. Thus, this allows the mobile to offer the most immersive experience that is no longer hindered by a punch or a notch. The front sensor has a capacity of 16 megapixels.

Extremely responsive screens

The Red Magic 7 Pro smartphone benefits from a AMOLED display Full HD+ 1080×2400 pixels with a refresh rate of 165 Hz and a 960Hz sample rate, which comes in handy for responsiveness in games. The display surface is extremely large since 6.8 inches in 20:9 format on 10 bits. There is a fingerprint reader under the screen to unlock the smartphone. The mobile has a 5000 mAh capacity battery ssupporting the load at 65 watts only which is a small disappointment given that the Chinese model can accept charging at 165 watts.

To help optimize performance, the Red Magic 7 Pro features a ICE 8.0 liquid cooling system covering one of the largest areas on the market. The system includes a fan that can spin up to 20,000 rpm. A 3.5 mm audio jack port is available for connecting headphones and note compatibility with the DTS audio format. The photo part is identical to the previous models, i.e. a 64+8+2 megapixel configuration on the back.
