[REVIEW] : The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, among the free games on the Epic Games Store

The Epic Games Store has already rotated every Thursday. The platform from the creators of Fortnite has fulfilled the promised titles and made the two planned video games available to all players: on the one hand, a well-known walking simulator, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter; on the other, Rogue Legacy, a roguelite-like title. They can be claimed until next Thursday, April 14, when they will be replaced by XCOM 2 and Insurmountable.

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter puts the player in the shoes of occult expert Paul Prospero, who intends to prosper his investigation into the case of Ethan Carter, a boy who sent him a card and who seems to be in serious danger. When the protagonist arrives at the boy’s house, he discovers that he has disappeared and that a terrible murder has taken place.

In Rogue Legacy, death is fast approaching, but you will always have a successor trying to become the hero everyone wants. And each of the descendants is different, the same color-blind fate as with fear of heights.

Every week, the Epic Games Store rewards the loyalty of its users through free games. In addition to hard-core games, Epic account owners can expect in-game content. Packs that often come as accompaniments. And on this Thursday, April 7, 2020, the Epic Games Store is renewing its free games offer with two new titles. Available for 7 days, the City of Brass and Total War: WARHAMMER games are giving way to two new games. From this Thursday, April 7, 5 p.m., to Thursday, April 14, 5 p.m., anyone with an Epic Games account will be able to retrieve the games Rogue Legacy and The Vanishing of Ethan Carter for free. Great indie games available for a week.

Released in 2013, Rogue Legacy presents itself as a 2D rogue-lite with RPG elements that demands exploration and determination. The goal is simple: explore a randomly generated dungeon to face four bosses, each located in a different environment. Change of biome therefore with a forest, basements, a dungeon and a castle. Four bosses that allow, once defeated, access to a tower leading to the final boss. To achieve his ends, the player can jump and swing his sword, while possessing a secondary ability.

And who says rogue-lite, says a lot of tests. Each time the hero dies, one of his heirs will take his place. Three heirs are available, all having their strengths and weaknesses. A fine mix between a rogue-lite and a platform game that has seduced since its release. On Steam, count a total of 14,556 evaluations all the same, for 93% of positive reviews. A rogue-lite that has made its contribution to the building of its genre, to the delight of fans of this type of game.

Rogue Legacy is available until April 14, 5 p.m. right there.

Summaries and download links are available below.

Rogue Legacy

Rogue Legacy is a rogue-lite where everyone can be a hero.

When you die, your only descendants will succeed you. Each child is unique. One could be color blind, the other suffer from vertigo… and could even be suffering from dwarfism.

It’s ok, no one is perfect and you don’t need to be to succeed in the game. However, you will have to be super tough because this game is HARD. Fortunately, when you die, all the gold you have collected can be used to improve your mansion. It will give your child a head start in life and a new chance to defeat evil.

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter

You play as Paul Prospero, a detective with a penchant for the occult, who receives a disturbing letter from Ethan Carter. Realizing the boy is in grave danger, Paul arrives at Ethan’s home in Red Creek Valley, where things turn out to be even worse than he had imagined. Ethan has disappeared following a brutal murder, and Paul quickly realizes that this may not be the only local murder he will have to investigate.

Inspired by the weird fiction (and other macabre tales) of the early 20th century, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter aims to significantly evolve immersive storytelling in games. Although The Vanishing of Ethan Carter presents you with a private detective and plenty of mental challenges, it’s not a particularly puzzle-heavy game. We focused on atmosphere, mood and the essential humanity of our characters.

Yet discoveries will not happen on their own or without your help. Using both Paul’s supernatural ability to communicate with the dead and your own powers of observation, you’ll uncover the mystery behind dead bodies, the roots of an ancient dark force lurking in the Red Creek Valley. Valley, and the fate of a missing boy.

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, free game of the week on the EGS

Who says new week, says new free games on the Epic Game Store from 5:00 p.m. From April 7 to 14, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter lands free on the EGS. Explore the world before you, and solve the mystery of the disappearance of Ethan and his family.

Paul Prospero is a detective with a penchant for the occult. When he receives Ethan Carter’s letter, his interest is aroused as the content is disturbing. But upon arriving at Red Creek Valley, the detective discovers that the reality is much worse. He must then investigate the disappearance of young Ethan and his family, while solving the murders committed in town.

While it’s a puzzle-solving game, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter focuses much more on its atmosphere. It is an immersive experience in which the atmosphere will plunge the player into constant fear. The open world aspect of the title makes it possible in particular to offer great freedom, accentuating immersion.
