The Xbox One S without a disc drive, which is said to be in the works at Microsoft, is rumored to be called the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition.
The console should appear in May.
Tech website Thurrott reported last year that this console – codenamed Maverick – was one of two new Xbox One S variants. The second is about a cost reduction – this version still contains a drive – it is said to come later this year.
Thurrott stated at the time that Microsoft wanted to release the Xbox One S without a drive for less than $ 200 in the spring.
The latest rumors now come from Windows Central. Citing its own sources, the site reports that the console’s hardware is almost identical to that of the current Xbox One S, only the disc drive is missing. It is expected that it will be released almost worldwide simultaneously in May, and pre-orders will be possible from mid-April.
There is no information about the price from Windows Central. In addition, reports are made of a Fortnite edition with an individual design. However, it is unclear whether this is based on the new All-Digital Edition or on one of the existing consoles.
