Seven cool shortcuts to be more productive on our Mac
Keyboard shortcuts are one of the best ways to improve productivity when we use our Mac. By using these key combinations we can perform actions that would otherwise take multiple clicks. There are many shortcuts, but today we will learn seven very interesting ones.
Documents, Desktop, or iCloud Drive
Finder is one of the applications we use the most on our computers, the reason is simple, it allows us access all our files and folders. Inside the folders we use in Searcher the ones we will probably visit the most will be The documents, Bureau, iCloud Drive… We can all access it using key combinations:
- Open file The documents: Command (⌘) + Shift (⇧) + O
- Open file Bureau: Command (⌘) + Shift (⇧) + D
- Open file iCloud Drive: Command (⌘) + Shift (⇧) + I
AirDrop
Another folder that we’ll probably use frequently, especially for file sharing is AirDrop. We can use it in two different ways: by right clicking on the file, choosing to share and then AirDrop, or by tapping the AirDrop icon in Finder. Another way is to use a keyboard shortcut:
- Open AirDrop: Command (⌘) + Shift (⇧) + R
Empty the trash
Another shortcut that can be useful is the one that allows us empty the trash on our Mac with a simple key combination. This is a fairly long combination, although when used it is quite natural:
- Empty the trash: Command (⌘) + Option (⌥) + Shift (⇧) + Delete
With this combination, we will empty the trash without having to intervene on a click. Moreover, if we are in the application Mail, we can use this same combination for empty the trash.
Create a new folder
Another thing we can do with a keyboard shortcut is creating other folders. In addition, in doing so, once the folder is created, just write its name and press Enter. In this way creating a folder and naming it becomes easy and comfortable:
- Create a new folder: Command (⌘) + Shift (⇧) + N
Add to playlist
To end with today’s shortcuts, let’s look at one from Safari: the one that allows us to add the page we see to the reading list. Thanks to this shortcut, it will be very easy for us save any page:
- Add to playlist: Command (⌘) + Shift (⇧) + D
Here’s how I did a 365-day time lapse with the iPhone and two simple shortcuts
As we see, there are shortcuts for all tastes, they are easy to use and allow us to streamline repetitive actions on our computers. If we use them multiple times, we’ll get used to them soon and doing four clicks will become a two-key press.
