State of Decay 3 developed with Unreal Engine 5 – Gears of War devs lend a hand

“You mentioned Undead Labs, they’re working with The Coalition in Vancouver, our Gears of War studio, using some of the technology from Unreal Engine 5 and some of the things that were in Gears of War before we brought it into State of Decay 3,” Booty told Nelson.

“Before last week, we spent a whole day at Undead Labs in Seattle, it was awesome, getting an update on State of Decay 3, which has some really cool stuff, in addition to the fact that State of Decay 2 continues grow its user base,” Booty added. “It’s kind of the stealth genre that keeps growing, and it was cool to have some new info. I think we’re at eleven million loyal players on State of Decay 2 now, which is pretty cool. Matt Booty also talks about how he and the team manage tweaks with studios on the progress of their games and how those studios share technology back and forth, which takes place with multiple “meet-and-greets”.

“We have a structure in place, we just call them meetups, where we bring subject matter experts together for a day or two,” says Booty. “We had animation meetups, UI meetups, Unreal Engine meetups, physics meetups, and so on. I think we had close to 25 last year. This is our primary mechanism for teams to share technology. »

The Coalition is one of Microsoft’s frontline studios for Unreal Engine 5, having announced in 2021 that it was moving to UE5 for “several new projects”. In April 2022, The Coalition even presented its own experiences under Unreal Engine 5.

As for State of Decay 3, it was announced during an Xbox games showcase in 2020 and we only got a quick cinematic glimpse of a lonely woman in the desert and a dead wolf eaten by a zombie deer.

Undead Labs needs help
