While in the official revelation of the next PlayStation Sony hinted that the SSD it prepares will be an important part of the console, a new statement shows that, in practice, it will be essential to what the company wants to offer. In the latest issue of Official PlayStation Magazine, a representative said that the new storage system will be “the key to the new generation”.

“An ultra-fast SSD is the key to the new generation,” said Sony. “Our vision is to make loading screens a thing of the past, allowing creators to build new and unique gameplay experiences,” concluded the message.

New options for artists

In a demonstration of the new PlayStation made to Wired magazine, the main engineer of the console, Mark Cerny, showed that, in it, the loading time of Marvel’s Spider-Man drops from 15 to 1 second when triggering a quick trip. According to him, the new storage can change the speed of movement of characters, offer more options for the movement of cameras and opens up a range of opportunities for artists.

The next console also promises to have powerful hardware made in partnership with AMD and support for the transmission of images in the 8K standard (something that should be explored mainly by videos). Still not expected to launch, the console should reach the market only from the beginning of the fiscal year 2020, which begins in April.
