The Lord of the Rings in Crusader Kings 3 – an early version of the mod is here

  • An early version of the LotR: Realms in Exile modification has been released, bringing the universe known from The Lord of the Rings to Crusader Kings III.
  • For now, we can play in it, inter alia, Saruman or King Theoden of Rohan.
  • Although the map in fashion is limited to 25 provinces so far, its impressive scale is already visible.
  • The Lord of the Rings universe has enjoyed great popularity all over the world for many years. There is no shortage of fans of the world created by the British writer JRR Tolkien, for example among fans of Paradox Interactive games, including the Crusader Kings series. Some of them even made efforts to transfer Arda and its realities to their favorite productions. Suffice it to mention the Middle Earth Project to Crusader Kings II. An early version of the latest trial of this type, already developed for Crusader Kings III, had its premiere yesterday. Meet LotR: Realms in Exile.

  • In the current version, the number of items available in the modification LotR: Realms in Exile it is quite limited. There is only one starting date (year 3000 of the Third Age). After choosing it, we can choose one of the few ruling rulers during this period more or less in the central part of Middle-earth. There are, among others, King Theoden of Rohan or the sorcerer Saruman of Isengard. Each of them has its own culture (so far there are five – Rohirrim, Leofring, Isatri, as well as two types of Dunland people), religion (Dark People, Free People and Followers of Sauron) and lineage. They all have to cope with various challenges posed by various random events (maintained, of course, in the atmosphere of the Lord of the Rings universe)) and opponents with whose armies they will fight on the map. Importantly, as the creators of the modification assure, it is the most detailed in the history of Tolkien’s work in video games. In the future it will consist of “thousands of provinces”. Although there are currently only 25 of them, the scale is already visible. In addition to the general outline, there are for example models of the most famous settlements and locations, inspired mainly by the film trilogy of The Lord of the Rings directed by Peter Jackson.

In addition, in the early version of the LotR: Realms in Exile mod released yesterday, we can find, among other things, special mercenary units, unique character traits similar to those of The Lord of the Rings heroes, and the magic system through which Saruman can influence other heroes, prepare explosives and summon Uruk-hai. More details can be found in this place.

It will certainly be interesting to see how the mod LotR: Realms in Exile will develop in the future. In the coming updates we can expect more countries, cultures, religions, characters and much more. There should also be other races known from the pages of Tolkien’s novels, such as elves, orcs and dwarves. A foretaste of what they might look like in this modification can be found in another fan project for Crusader Kings III – Lord of the Kings. You can find it here.
