Xenoblade Chronicles 2 sold out on Amazon Japan following Pyra and Mythra announcement in Super Smash Bros Ultimate

Apparently, the announcement of the characters Pyra and Mythra as DLC in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate from the last Nintendo Direct caused Xenoblade Chronicles 2 for Nintendo Switch to sell out in Japan …

Last week we had a new Nintendo Direct presentation that opened with the announcement of the new Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fighter. Or rather, fighters: Pyra and Mythra, two characters from Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

The announcement appears to have achieved the effect Nintendo wanted: to spark player interest in a game released more than three years ago. As reported by a Japanese media, the game was sold out from Amazon Japan.

In case you wonder, in Amazon Spain it is available with delivery in one day … although interestingly, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, released in Fall 2017, is more expensive than Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition, released in May 2020.

Monolith Soft’s Xenoblade Chronicles series has almost become one more Nintendo franchise, which has sparked interest in open-world JRPGs as a Nintendo-exclusive alternative to current Final Fantasy. Despite its name, each game has a separate story, world, and characters, so you can play Xenoblade Chronicles 2 without having played the previous two.

Two? Yes, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is actually the third, as there was another installment on Wii U, Xenoblade Chronicles X, which for some reason has not yet reached Switch …

Pyra and Mythra, the new fighters of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, will come to the game as DLC in March, and in a few days we will have a new in-depth presentation from Masahiro Sakurai’s classroom. Even if they are two characters, they count as a single addition to the roster, so there are still two characters to reveal. What do you think of these two new characters?
