A book about League of Legends?! So how to encourage players to read!.

Do you not feel like reading any other books because of such works as “On the Niemnem” or “Przedwiośnie”? You will change your mind after reading this article!

At the outset, it is worth noting that books based on games are not outstanding literature. You can even be tempted to say that this is niche literature, compared to such works as George Orwell’s “1984” or Terry Pratchett’s entire oeuvre…

However, it is a good alternative if you have a grudge against books after reading “Ferdydurke” or because your Polish teacher considered “Pan Tadeusz” to be the greatest work of mankind ever and abused you with it. Below you will find books that every self-respecting gamer should know and can be the basis for turning the collection of games on the shelf into a collection of books.

Warcraft universe

A book – or rather a series of them – telling the history of humans, elves and dwarves starting from the end of the Second War between humans and orcs. We follow the events we know well from Warcraft III and World of Warcraft, but from a different point of view. As a huge fan of the whole world of Azeroth and the characters that inhabit it, I highly recommend this series along with the recently released Illidan telling the story of Illidan between the end of the third part of the cult RTS and the end of the expansion to WoW: The Burning Crusade.

Warhammer 40,000 universe

The book “The Time of Horus” focuses on the events that led to the downfall of the titular Warmaster Horus. The Horus Heresy series currently consists of over 40 volumes, but there are many more books based on the Warhammer universe. Currently, 34 of them have been translated into Polish. Despite the fact that the Warhammer series was initiated by a board game with the same title, it is worth including this book in this list.

Mass Effect universe

The book, modeled on the series of games with Commander Shepard, tells about the struggles of David Anderson, known from the first part of the game. The position, along with the sequels: “Ascension” and “Retaliation”, is a must for all fans of the space opera, which is Mass Effect.

Diablo universe

Another item based on the universe created by Blizzard. Each of the books tells separate stories set within the framework of Diablo’s world – Sanctuary. They are not very long, but they answer well the questions left by game developers, such as “who was Bartuc?”, with whom we will have to fight in the third act of Diablo II.

Of course, these are just a few of many examples. It is also worth mentioning EVE: Era Empyrean based on EVE: Online or the Resident Evil: Marhawa Desire manga, based on a series of games about the living dead.

But where is the book based on the history of Runeterra?!

The very world that Riot has created for its game screams about writing a book with the heroes who inhabit it. Admit it, a series covering the origins of the war between Demacia and Noxus, or the split between Zaun and Piltover, or the very beginnings of the League would be extremely interesting. Especially if it was written by a talented writer.

Fortunately (or unfortunately…) on the popular website Wattpad.com you can find a lot of “fanfic” about our beloved game. It is true that most of them are written by stulejki dreaming of beating Ahri untalented creators, but there are exceptions. It is worth mentioning here, for example, “Freljord – A League of Legends Story”, which was awarded the Wattys Award in 2016, in the “Hidden Pearl” category. You can read the story HERE.

A good story is also “Waiting Room for the Unwanted”, which you can read HERE.
