Apple continues to work on new versions of headphones to complete its range of AirPods. Now, a rumor puts the AirPods 3 Lite back on the table. It would be a model similar to the AirPods Pro, but it would lack the noise cancellation and transparency capabilities.
Cheaper AirPods 3 Lite than AirPods Pro
The SiP used by the H1 chip in regular AirPods Pro had the rounded shape of a mouse. The SiP for the H1 chip in the Lite version will be a simple square. The supplier will pass Apple’s quality test before the end of the year, starting mass production next year.
The report comes from TheElec, collected by MacRumors. It specifies that the AirPods 3 will be 20% cheaper than AirPods Pro, which is priced at $ 249. That is, the AirPods 3 would cost $ 199. That’s the same price as AirPods 2 with a wireless charging case in the US now. It is unknown if this model would include the same case as the AirPods Pro, although it is taken for granted. In that case, the product line would look like this:
AirPods 2: $ 159, no wireless case.
AirPods 3, $ 199, with wireless case, no noise cancellation and AirPods Pro shape.
AirPods Pro: $ 249
AirPods Max: $ 549.
The report goes on to say that Apple’s original plans they included taking out the AirPods 3 shortly after the AirPods Pro launched in late 2019. But seeing the good sales, they decided to wait longer. Certainly, the rumors about AirPods Pro Lite accelerated in the first half of 2020, and then disappeared.
