Rumors of the next generation of AirPods have been appearing for months. These AirPods 3 or third generation would already be in development in the Cupertino laboratories and would inherit much of the design of current AirPods Pro. Now an image of these supposed headphones has been leaked.
From AirPods to AirPods Pro and from AirPods Pro to …
In the leak, which comes from 52audio and which MacOtakara has echoed, we see nothing more and nothing less than a photo of an AirPod in part of its charging case. From the image the first thing that stands out is that these headphones wouldn’t be in-ear like their older siblings, so active noise cancellation could be ruled out. A function that, on the other hand, makes sense to be reserved for headphones with the surname Pro.
The image matches the information that Mark Gurman published a few days ago in Bloomberg. According to him the company is preparing new AirPods and new AirPods Pro. The AirPods Pro would change to have an even more compact design and the AirPods would compact theirs inheriting that of the AirPods Pro.
As we can see in the image, from which 52audio has made the upper render, future AirPods 3 would have a much shorter, forward-leaning “leg”. It remains to be confirmed whether these headphones would inherit the function of pressing on it to perform actions such as answering calls or pausing playback, as 52audio comments, or would continue to maintain the typical double tap that became popular with the first AirPods.
According to the information we currently have, these AirPods, as well as the rumored AirPods Studio, would arrive during 2021, probably in an event that would take place in March.
