Apple unveils iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs MAX and iPhone Xr
In addition to the new Apple Watch Series 4, Apple today unveiled the new line of iPhone models, comprising three new models: iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR.
The first two belong to the same line, with a difference only in screen size and battery, while the last one belongs to a separate line, but still has similarities with the first two models.
iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max
The iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max are the most advanced smartphones produced by Apple. The iPhone Xs has a 5.8-inch Super Retina OLED screen, while the iPhone Xs Max has a 6.5-inch screen with the same features.
Apple highlights several on-screen technologies such as HDR 10, Dolby Vision, 120hz touch sensor, 3D Touch and True Tone. The company also highlights the 1 million to 1 contrast and a pixel-per-inch (PPI) ratio of 458 (which is still lower than competitive smartphones like the Samsung S9 and S9+).
The new A12 Bionic chip is another highlight on the new models. The new chip will work together with a Neural Engine that will have the ability to learn and apply its abilities in Augmented Reality and photographs, producing the best results ever seen in an Apple camera.
The camera, one of the most used things on smartphones these days, has also been the subject of several improvements. Both models have two 12MP cameras with dual image stabilizer. There is also a new sensor, smart HDR, depth control in portrait mode, Extended Dynamic Range in videos and a feature called Advanced Bokeh.
The ability of the iPhone Xs for augmented reality was highlighted by Apple at its conference, using various applications to show its use. With AR Quick Look it is possible to quickly visualize an object in augmented reality and place it in a real context (ie, you can quickly test how a piece of furniture or appliance will look like in your house).
In another application, called Homecourt, it was shown how the iPhone Xs can read the lines of a basketball court, measure the placement of players, time the moves and in the end offer a series of statistics based on that data.
The battery has been improved on both models over the iPhone X. The iPhone Xs battery will last 30 minutes longer than the previous model, while the iPhone Xs Max battery will last 1h30 longer. Both models are also Dual Sim.
The release date for the iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max is September 21st, including Portugal.
Regarding prices, it was confirmed that the iPhone XS 64GB costs €1,179, the 256GB costs €1349 and the 512GB costs €1579.
If you’re looking for the iPhone XS Max, get ready to shell out €1279, €1449 and €1679 on the 64GB, 256GB and 512GB configurations, respectively.
The iPhone Xr is basically Apple’s most affordable smartphone that follows the same design line as the more expensive models. Of course, the more affordable price translates into less functionality and features.
In this model Apple put a 6.1-inch LCD screen, the most advanced smartphone according to the company. On battery is promised 1h30 more than the iPhone 8 Plus, the model that the iPhone Xr replaces.
With the exception of the non-OLED screen and a single camera lens, the iPhone Xr retains virtually all the features and functionality of the iPhone Xs and Xs Max, and is equipped with the same A12 Bionic chip.
For those who like more variety, iPhone Xr is the best option, being the model with more colors. White, Black, Blue, Yellow, Red and Coral will be available. The release date is October 26th in Portugal and other countries.
The price of the iPhone XR 64GB will be €879, the iPhone XR 128GB will cost €939 and the iPhone XR 256GB will cost €1049.
