Fans have dreamed about this for years but never thought it possible. Still, the possibility is there, because as far as Phil Spencer is concerned, Banjo & Kazooie may be in the next Super Smash Bros. game!

Two weeks ago, the next Super Smash Bros. announced. Great of course, but besides adding Splatoon’s inklings, we know almost nothing about this game or which characters we will find in it.

A Twitter account called BanjoEXE decided to take his plunge and ask none other than Phil Spencer, the head of Microsoft Games, if Banjo and Kazooie can be in the next Smash. This iconic duo has of course two great titles on the Nintendo 64, Banjo Kazooie and Banjo Tooie, to their credit, so the link with Nintendo is there. The problem is, these games are made by developer Rare, which has been bought by Microsoft since 2002. Little new has been done with the characters since then. Except for the Xbox 360 title Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts and a cameo in Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing.

To everyone’s surprise, Phil Spencer has not only responded, he even says that he thinks it is fine with a simple ‘yep’. Of course, this doesn’t automatically mean that Banjo and Kazooie will magically appear in the next Super Smash Bros. but if these negotiations aren’t already behind closed doors, Nintendo should jump on this opportunity very quickly. Fans of the old guard and retro fanatics will be thrilled when this iconic duo finally makes another showing on a Nintendo platform. And especially if this means that they can fight against all the other juggernauts from Nintendo!

@ XboxP3 are you still willing to let banjo and kazooie appear in smash bros ?? 🙂 pic.twitter.com/qNlCkdZJtk

This isn’t the first time Phil Spencer has indicated that he thinks this is a great idea. That is why BanjoEXE also asks if Spencer thinks this is ‘still’ okay. A few years ago he already announced that he would find it cool if Banjo & Kazooie as DLC to Super Smash Bros. for the 3DS and Wii U would come. Unfortunately that did not happen then. Let’s hope it will this time.

@PedroDarkinson I think it would be cool if Banjo was in the next SSB DLC. We’ve worked with Nintendo on Rare IP before, no issues.

Last week, Funimation also tweeted that they are happy to add Goku from Dragon Ball Z to Super Smash Bros. Also a character that many have loved to make an appearance in the franchise for years. Throw in Kratos or Geralt right away while you’re at it. Instantly make it the most insane Smash game ever. Bless you Nintendo!
