Assassin’s Creed Odyssey vs The Witcher 3: how much have graphics evolved in 4 years?.
Contents
Despite the years that have passed since its launch on the market, The Witcher 3 game remains one of the most loved by many users. Not only that, but visually, it’s been one of the most acclaimed games of its time, requiring some pretty powerful computer setups to make it work at a high level of detail. In this article, we’re going to compare it to another game that might not have as much to envy CD Projekt Red’s title: Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.
Both The Witcher 3 and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey have in common that both are set in an open world and are RPG (Role Playing Game) type games. They also share that both are games whose duration until you manage to complete them is quite long. Something that most current action games lack, whose campaigns are not usually excessively long.

But if the game Assassin’s Creed Odyssey stands out for something, it is because of the great care that the developers have taken when designing the characters, both the protagonist and the NPCs, who give life to a world that truly transports us to ancient Greece. . However, if we compare his work with what was done on The Witcher 3 game, it turns out that this game was much more polished than Odyssey visually.
The Witcher 3 has better textures than Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
In general, the texture models used in The Witcher 3 are much more accurate models than those used in developing Assasin’s Creed Odyssey. These details can be seen in the following screenshots for both games.

As you can see, the texture maps that were made for The Witcher 3 are more detailed maps. This is something that is even more obvious when you look at the detail on the sword pommel, in the first image, which is much more detailed than the weapon models that appear in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.
Another aspect that is better resolved in the game of The Witcher 3 is that of the ground, which is much better worked than in Odyssey, as we can see in this screenshot.

The texture work is much more defined in the CD Projekt Red game. However, the interaction with the vegetation is much better in the Odyssey than in the Witcher 3.
The lighting effects are a tie between both games
One aspect in which both games are evenly tied is in the lighting effects that both games are capable of. Thus, the light cast from the torches and the shadows in The Witcher 3 are better than those in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. In contrast, the ambient lighting effects in the open sky are much better achieved in the case of the second game.

One area where Assassin’s Creed Origins does win, however, is in character animation. The world of this game seems much more real than that of The Witcher 3 due to the movements they have when walking and swimming. Especially in this last aspect, where a really impressive fluidity of movements has been achieved.
In the same way that fluid dynamics when objects move through the water is much more realistic in the case of the Odyssey.
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey has performance issues
One of the complaints from users of this game is the performance problems associated with it. And that make it require quite powerful graphic configurations to be able to move the game. Perhaps this could be due to poor game optimization. Or maybe it’s due to the DENUVO protection it uses. After all, this type of protection is famous for overloading users’ computers, requiring very high levels of resources to run games. So much so that many users with the original game choose to download a “mod” that deactivates this protection and, therefore, have better performance.
