Northrend’s icy winds howl again, announcing the news that Blizzard Entertainments Wrath of the Lich King Classic™ is now live. All players with an active subscription will automatically receive access to the recreation of WoW®’s acclaimed second expansion at no additional cost and can log in today to begin their adventures in the frozen wilderness of Azeroth’s northern continent. The legendary story can be experienced on all realms previously dedicated to World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade Classic™ content.

Players will embark on a treacherous adventure through lush locations, battling enemies found nowhere else in Azeroth and completing numerous quests before confronting the iconic Lich King in Icecrown Citadel and ending his callous destruction. This journey includes the rise of the terrifying Death Knight hero classavailable to all players (even new players!) and starting at level 55, the original iteration of the World of Warcraft achievement system to recognize various in-game achievements, and the Inscription profession, which allows players to scribe skill-enhancing glyphs that change appearance and modify the properties of spells and abilities.

Originally released in 2008, the experience of this much-loved expansion has been carefully maintained while some social and gameplay functionalities have been modernized for current and classic community. Today’s group tools have evolved while maintaining the experience of forming groups organically. Players will also see other quality of life updates made to preserve the soul of Classic and ensure players’ adventures through Northrend are as satisfying as they are challenging.

Community is at the heart of Classic, and there’s plenty of group content for players to explore with friends: starting today, 12 dungeons are available as part of the player level and maximum level experience, with a total of 16 dungeons available throughout the expansion. On October 6, players looking for even more overwhelming thrills will be able to take on the first three of seven raids – Eye of Eternity, Obsidian Sanctum and Naxxramas – before continuing their adventures in Ulduar, Trial of the Crusader, Icecrown in future updates. Players looking to further enhance their experience can choose from two upgrades available for purchase on Battle.net:

Northrend Heroic Upgrade: a level 70 character boost complete with appropriate equipment, mount, starting gold and expert riding skill, Pebble the penguin pet and Fishspeaker’s Lucky Lure, a toy to summon your very own tuskarr fishing companion.

Northrend Epic Upgrade: all items in the Heroic upgrade, plus the flying Kalu’ak Whalebone Glider mount for your Classic characters, the flying Tuskarr Shoreglider mount for your non-classic characters, and 30 days of playtime.
