Buy an iPhone 12 (Mini) or iPhone 12 Pro (Max)? Everything you need to know.
Apple announced four new iPhones at its ‘Hi, speed’ event on Tuesday: iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max. The iPhone 12 and 12 Pro will launch in October, while the iPhone 12 Mini and 12 Pro Max will be released in November. The devices can be purchased separately or in combination with a subscription. You can compare the iPhone 12 subscriptions at Telefoon.nl.
iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro
The iPhone 12 Mini and 12 have a 5.4-inch (2340 x 1080 pixels) and 6.1-inch (2532 x 1170 pixels) screen respectively. The screen of the iPhone 12 Pro is 6.1-inch and the iPhone 12 Pro Max has a 6.7-inch screen (2778 x 1248 pixels). This year, all models are equipped with an OLED panel with a peak brightness of 1200 nits and a refresh rate of 60Hz. For the new models, Apple has developed a new type of glass called ‘ceramic shield’ in collaboration with Corning. According to the company, this reduces the risk of damage in the event of a fall. The iPhone 12 has an aluminum frame and stainless steel for the iPhone 12 Pro. All models are waterproof with an IP68 rating.
On the back of the iPhones we find a primary 12-megapixel camera with 1.7 micron pixels. The lens has an aperture of f / 1.6. The foursome also has an ultra-wide-angle camera (12-megapixel) with an aperture of f / 2.4. A third camera with telephoto lens is available on the Pro models. The iPhone 12 Pro has two times optical zoom and a 52mm lens, while the Pro Max has a 65mm lens with 2.5x optical zoom.

Another innovation is the ProRAW function for the Pro models. It allows users to shoot in RAW with all processing of Apple’s image algorithms. The LiDAR sensor of the iPhone 12 Pro models also ensures faster autofocus in low light and improved augmented reality applications. Videos can be captured with the new iPhones in 4k at 60 frames per second. There is support for Dolby Vision and HDR10.
The iPhone 12 series is powered by the Apple A14-soc. This new chip from Apple is produced by TSCM on a 5nm process. It ensures that the A14 is not only faster, but also more economical than its predecessors. Whether this will result in longer battery life remains to be seen, as the models feature a 5G modem that will presumably use more power.

Apple no longer supplies a power adapter or wired earplugs with the iPhone 12 series. The company says this is because of the environment. The boxes are smaller, which means that 70% more iPhones can be shipped in the same space during transport. A USB-C to Lightning cable is still available. Furthermore, the manufacturer has added sensors and magnets to the wireless charging system, with which you can click chargers and covers on the back.
The iPhone 12 (64GB / 128GB / 256GB) and iPhone 12 Pro (128GB / 256GB / 512GB) are available from € 909 and € 1159 respectively. Pre-orders will begin on Friday, October 16, with release a week later. For the iPhone 12 Mini (64GB / 128GB / 256GB) and iPhone 12 Pro Max (128GB / 256GB / 512GB), Apple charges € 809 and € 1259 respectively. For these models, pre-order will start on November 6 and shipments will start on November 13.
