The new season of the Call of Duty World League begins.
Santa Monica, Calif. – November 3, 2017 – Call of Duty: WWII is now available globally on digital and retail releases. According to Nielsen Game Rank, the most anticipated game of the end of this year is also the return of the Call of Duty series to the very beginnings of the franchise, i.e. to World War II. The new title takes players to the fronts of history’s greatest military conflict, through the prism of a personal story of heroism and unbreakable bonds of brotherhood in the heat of the fight to save the world from tyranny.
Activision’s Call of Duty: WWII also delivers a hard-hitting multiplayer mode with new community-engagement features, as well as the terrifying co-op mode, Zombie ___s.
“Call of Duty: WWII is the right game released at the right time for our fans. Taking the series back to its heroic, military roots was a huge opportunity as well as a great responsibility. We were determined to deliver an unforgettable World War II experience, and I hope we’ve succeeded,” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision. “Our Sledgehammer and Raven teams not only captured the sheer scale and unique atmosphere of the most brutal war the world has ever seen, but also introduced many innovations – from the new multiplayer War Mode, to the new community space with HQ, to the scary-haired zombies mode. It doesn’t matter if you’re a veteran of the series or just starting your adventure – this part will connect all fans.”
“Call of Duty: WII was a very personal experience for us as Sledgehammer Games team members and cast communicated directly with World War II veterans. From the beginning, we did our best to recreate the realities and locations, also working on the source materials over the years to ensure that we captured the spirit and tone of the conflict that players will experience,” said Glen Schofield, co-founder and studio manager of Sledgehammer Games.
“It has been an unforgettable privilege for all of us to be part of taking Call of Duty fans back to World War II,” added Michael Condrey, Co-Founder and Studio Manager at Sledgehammer Games. “The stories of sacrifice, brotherhood and altruism shown by the men and women of that great generation inspired each of us to do the best job of our careers. We’ve kept these humble heroes at the forefront of the game’s development, and we’re proud to share this with the Call of Duty community to honor them.”
Call of Duty: WWII is filled with an incredible amount of content and provides players with new ways to communicate, compete and engage with the community in all unique game modes. Call of Duty: WWII’s story campaign takes players on an intense journey of action-packed action and epic battles. Players follow Ronald “Red” Daniels, a member of the U.S. 1st Infantry Division, as he joins British and French Resistance forces to fight on the beaches of Normandy, the liberation of Paris, and finally Germany itself.
Call of Duty: WWII multiplayer is a fast-paced, grounded and action-packed experience set in some of the most recognizable locations in the European theater of operations of World War II, giving players an arsenal of iconic weapons and equipment to adapt to different playstyles and innovative ways to enjoy this mode, which includes:
- War Mode: Developed in partnership with Raven Software, allows players to compete against each other as Allied or Axis forces in team-oriented and objective-oriented missions.
- Divisions: This mode redefines the class creation system for how players advance their multiplayer careers by giving them the opportunity to enlist in five iconic divisions: the ever first on the battlefield, the Airborne Division, the sniping prowess of the Mountain Division, which can adapt to any situation with an Infantry Division with the best equipment of an Armored Division and an Expeditionary Force armed with incendiary ammunition and shotguns.
- Headquarters: An evolving, shared social space that allows players to connect with fans and friends.
Zombies is an all-new cooperative zombie mode that plunges players into a dark, terrifying and unique story set in the mythical and mystical universe of World War II. Players embark on a chilling journey through a snow-covered Bavarian village that holds a twisted secret of unimaginable and monstrous power.
