Comparison Huawei P30 vs Samsung Galaxy S10 vs Xiaomi Mi 9 vs iPhone XS vs LG V50

We already knew their names and that they were destined to fight another year to stay among the best high-end phones. The new Huawei P30 and Huawei P30 Pro have been substantially updated so, keeping the focus on the screen and its multi-camera system, again give a lot to talk about in 2019.

This is how the final comparison between the best high-end smartphones currently on the market.

The best high-end smartphones of 2019

Huawei’s new high-end, the P30 and P30 Pro, join the new models launched a few weeks ago at MWC 2019, which in turn add candidates with the models that survive after being announced at the end of 2018 and not having I still take over in the catalog, as is the case with Google or Apple.

These are the smartphones that we have chosen for this comparison:

Between the Huawei P30 and the Samsung Galaxy S10 is the design game

The loss of the fingerprint reader on the front of the Huawei P30 has earned this Asian high-end to be the great alternative to the Samsung Galaxy S10 as terminal with better overall physical dimensions.

Comparison Huawei P30 vs Samsung Galaxy S10 vs Xiaomi Mi 9 vs iPhone XS vs LG V50

The Huawei P30, which increases its diagonal to exceed the already essential 6 inches (all except the iPhone XS already offer at least one panel with those dimensions), is the most compact terminal of all in height and the second in weight, only surpassed by the aforementioned little Samsung. If we join the LG G8 we have a curiously trio of 6.1 inches in all three cases with dimensions that seem incredible for similar smartphones.

Despite these advantageous students, in the comparison table we can see how the vast majority have adjusted their physical dimensions in a fantastic way thanks to the widespread reduction of frames and in some cases, the adoption of strange formats such as the Sony Xperia 1.

No one is left without an OLED screen in the high range

If we except the Honor terminal, the step to the OLED technology Huawei P30 (his brother Pro already brought it as standard from the previous generation) corroborates that if you do not have an OLED panel, it will be difficult to be among the best phones of the year.

Comparison Huawei P30 vs Samsung Galaxy S10 vs Xiaomi Mi 9 vs iPhone XS vs LG V50

These panels are the absolute protagonists of the most desired terminals on the market due to the combination of contrast, brightness and in many cases already, HDR technology. There are different ranks within those OLED panels, but in general and looking at the consumer market, there is no doubt about its continuity within the high-end range.

The new Huawei P30 and P30 Pro do not dare to go beyond the FullHD + panel and that penalizes them in pixel density compared to the most direct competition

At the head of the most forceful panels we once again have Sony, with a OLED HDR panel with 4K resolution that it is worth having the best pixel density by far.

The new Huawei smartphones, which have not yet taken a step forward in resolution beyond FullHD +, remain around 400 dpi, in line with the Xiaomi Mi 9, the Honor View 20 and the two Apple iPhones.

In finishes, the Huawei P30 and P30 Pro do not miss the appointment with the glass, highlighting their exquisitely set metal frames. And thanks to the removal of the classic physical fingerprint sensor, its size / screen ratio is among the highest, overshadowing the still king Samsung.

In 2019, no less than 6 GB of RAM

Despite the fact that in the high range the quality / price ratio is not usually sought as much as in other ranges, the technical sheet is a battlefield where winners and losers emerge. In this 2019, the minimum RAM of 6 GB no manufacturer dares to deny it. We only find less amount of departure in the models of which we still have to know updates, such as the Google Pixel or Apple’s iPhone.

Comparison Huawei P30 vs Samsung Galaxy S10 vs Xiaomi Mi 9 vs iPhone XS vs LG V50

Also in internal memory this 2019 has left us a minimum figure from which lowering is dangerous: 128 GB. Again, last year’s models are the ones that are the most off the hook in this section. Here there is no doubt that the Huawei P30 Pro, with 8 GB of RAM and a minimum of 128 GB of internal memory, enters very strong to fight with the until now king Samsung.

The new Huawei, despite the fact that they will usually reach the market with interesting offers and a good presence in operators, cannot win for now the Honor View 20 and especially the Xiaomi Mi 9 as the kings of the performance / price ratio.

Huawei once again challenges its rivals with the multiple camera system

If last year Huawei was one of the brands that shook the market the most with its multipurpose camera system, the arrival of three cameras to the Huawei P30 and the jump to four in the case of the Pro model promise a very fun 2019 for those who like use intensively the camera (s) of their smartphones.

In the comparison table we see that having two cameras, as is the case with Apple’s iPhones, or even one like the Pixel, is the exception, no matter how good these solutions still offer.

Comparison Huawei P30 vs Samsung Galaxy S10 vs Xiaomi Mi 9 vs iPhone XS vs LG V50

For now, the inclusion of more cameras is not resulting in higher quality but in a wider range of creative possibilities. The winning combination in the high-end is to have the main camera, a second wide angle and a third with tele mode. Although there are exceptions such as the five cameras of the Nokia 9 Preview.
