Convert Videos for Cross-Platform Viewing: Wondershare Video Converter.
Contents
In a world where VLC player exists, you’d think media file formats weren’t important anymore. For the most part, we think people are only concerned with viewing media. VLC player covers all of that. Even the Movies & TV app in Windows 10 supports a type of MKV files, so many popular media containers are covered. The only problem is that people don’t just want to watch media files. Even if they were exclusively concerned with watching media, VLC player wouldn’t fill in all the gaps simply because desktop computers aren’t the only platform for watching video. Cross-platform viewing is still a problem, and for that, you need to convert videos. If you consider the applications that are used to edit videos, it becomes more apparent that you need to convert videos for cross-platform viewing and editing.
To convert videos for cross-platform viewing, you have many options to choose from. There are plenty of online services that you can use to convert videos for cross-platform viewing. Most services convert to popular formats like MP4 and MOV. The only problem is that the quality is lost when you convert videos online using these services. If you’re looking to convert videos for cross-platform viewing, a desktop app is the way to go. We took the popular video converter app for a spin and I can say that this is a pretty solid choice. Let’s see how things went

Facility
Installing Wondershare Video Converter is easy, but you need to do a custom installation if you don’t want to send usage statistics to the company. You can choose not to send usage statistics on the installation screen.
convert videos
The main purpose of Wondershare Video Converter is video conversion. We need an app that can convert a video but doesn’t destroy the quality of the video. The app supports conversion between 150 formats. This also includes MKV and MOV files. It is worth mentioning here that the app has a trial version and a paid version. Both versions have the same features, but the trial version limits the use of the features.

You can convert a whole video or just a part. Wondershare Video Converter has a built-in trimming tool that will allow you to convert only a selected part of any video.
To convert a video, drag and drop it on the application interface. Alternatively, the app adds itself to the right-click context menu options. You can just right click on a video file and select the convert option. This will open the app and add the video to it.

If you need to convert just one clip in the file, click the file’s Edit button. This will take you to the crop tool. Wondershare Video Converter also has other video editing tools, including a watermark tool and a color effect tool.
You can edit the file all you want. When you’re done, go back to the main interface and click ‘Convert’. The conversion takes time depending on the length of the file.

conversion quality
Here’s a side-by-side comparison of a converted MKV file to MP4. The one on the left is the original file and the one on the right is the converted clip.
change format
The app converts to MP4 file format by default, but you can change the format to anything else. In fact, you can convert a video to an audio file. To change the file format, open the dropdown menu under Output File. The formats are all divided by format and device. This is pretty good for when you don’t know what format to convert a video to. You can select the device in the Device tab and the app will know the correct format.
DVD/CD burning and video download
Wondershare Video Converter has two other main features. You can burn your media to a DVD or CD. Since people don’t really use DVDs or CDs anymore and drives are rapidly disappearing from laptops and desktops, this feature may interest very few people. The download function is the most important. You can download YouTube videos and almost any video online if you have a link.

Trial version vs full version
Wondershare Video Converter has a trial version. In the trial version, all the features of the app have limitations and limits. For example, you can download only 5 videos with the trial version, and then you need to purchase a license. You can only convert 1/3 of a clip and burn 1/3 of a video to a DVD. The cast limit is also set to 5 minutes. If you like the app, the full version will cost you $49.95 for a single lifetime license. If you’re buying for the family (or a smaller business), you can get a family license for 2-5 computers for $99.95.
pros cons
Wondershare Video Converter works very well, it is neither too promising nor insufficient. The app supports a wide range of features for which you would normally need multiple apps.
It has only one flaw; auto-installs browser extensions. We tested the app on a Windows 10 machine, where it automatically added a plugin to Internet Explorer. Other browsers were not affected. The app may never have tried to install a plugin in Chrome simply because Chrome would intercept it. That’s really the only problem with the app. The extension is not malicious. Adds a download button to pages that have media files you can download. It saves you the whole process of copying and pasting the URL into the app itself. Wondershare Video Converter must ask the user for permission before installing a plugin.

Other than that, the app has plenty of customization options so you can configure it to run the way you want.
