Skateboarding is back in fashion. And we are not talking about the longboards that can be seen on the streets. Skate games are back, and these are the best current (and future) titles that we can enjoy on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.
Maybe the golden age of skateboarding was the 90s, but the time has come to get back on our board and do some tricks, following the footsteps of Caballero, Burnquist or Tony Hawk.Skateboarding games are back (led by EA’s promise to bring back their iconic saga) and our engorile!
In this video we have compiled images of the coolest skateboard games, we go from the most “freaked out” arcades like Tony Hawk´s Pro Skater 1+ 2 Remastered, to simulators with a more real style like Session or Skater XL and we finished with a railing trick, sliding with our skate to other crazy things like Skatebird (a very original game that offers miniature skateparks for birds) or Skapp, a Spanish development that is included within the PlayStation Talents program and that allows us to perform ” ollies “and other tricks with our own hands, controlling our mobile as if it were the table.
Although you have never dared with these crazy things on a real table, we can guarantee you that the console versions are suitable for us – we have two left feet.
Activision and Vicarious Visions (developers of Crash Bandicoot N´sane Trilogy) have announced the release of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2, the return of two legendary PSX games, with visual improvements and controls adapted to current consoles. The release date of this compilation will be next September 4; the moment to meet again with one of the most influential games of the late 90s.
For his part Skater XL bets on realism, to the point that it could almost be considered a simulator: each joystick controls one of the character’s feet, and thanks to an elaborate system of physics, it is possible to perform any trick if we are skilled at the controls. To test our mastery of the skateboard, we have several locations inspired by real California locations known to have been the setting for some of the greatest moments and milestones in skateboarding history. In that sense, Skater XL will allow us to control some of the best known Pros, like Tiago Lemos, Evan Smith, Tom Asta and Brandon Westgate.
Session, the spiritual heir to the famous Skate, is in the Early Access phase. Many players have already experienced what skate control is like in this new proposal from Crea-ture Studios. After a period of testing, the company has implemented the Skate 3 system. We remember that in EA’s Skate saga, the left stick was used to direct our character, while the right stick was used to perform tricks.
