Cyberpunk 2077 and crunch – Adam Kiciński apologized to CD Projekt Red employees

The announcement of the postponement of the release of Cyberpunk 2077 undermined trust in CD Projekt RED. Earlier reports, which some had doubted, suddenly gained credibility. Further information definitely did not improve the mood of the players, and Adam Kiciński added fuel to the fire. Last Tuesday, the president of CD Projekt held a conference with investors, during which he was to say that the crunch in the studio was not and is not “so bad”. Apparently, he didn’t have time to bite his tongue, or at least that’s what the latest leak indicates. Jason Schreier received an e-mail sent to employees by Kiciński, in which he apologizes to them for Tuesday’s statement. The Pole was to describe his words as not so much unfortunate as simply “bad”, “humiliating and hurtful”:

Where to sell skins in Red Dead Online?

I would like to wholeheartedly apologize to everyone for what I said at Tuesday’s investor conference. I didn’t want to comment on crunch, but I did, and in a humiliating and hurtful way. To be honest, it is only now that the stress of the decision to delay and the conference itself has subsided that I fully realize the importance of my words.

I have nothing to defend. What I said wasn’t even unfortunate, it was completely wrong. For that, please accept my sincerest apologies.

While you can appreciate sending such an apology, in practice it is another blow to the supporters of the Polish developer. Officially downplaying the crunch and then repenting for these hasty words in an email to employees is somewhat bizarre. In the context of the behind-the-scenes scandal, we can say that the times when CD Projekt RED enjoyed an almost unshakable reputation as a company that respected players and employees are certainly behind us. Even – let’s hope – the successful debut of Cyberpunk 2077 is not enough to erase the memory of this situation. The game will debut (allegedly) on December 10 on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. On the same day, we will play the title on ninth generation platforms, although we will wait for a truly next-gen experience until the release of a major update in 2021.
