Hackers are auctioning Cyberpunk 2077 and other games with their source codes
The team behind the cyberpunk 2077 is suffering lately. After the hacker attack against the CD Project Red earlier this week, those responsible are now auctioning off various source codes, including Cyberpunk.
It was revealed earlier this week that CD Projekt Red has been hit by a cyber attack, with the attackers demanding a ransom for the source code of several of their games, including Cyberpunk, Gwent and an unreleased version of The Witcher 3. With the developer’s refusal to comply with the requirements, the source codes for the aforementioned titles now appear on an auction site.

According to data security company vx-underground, hackers posted the source codes on the Exploits forum, an online forum populated by other hackers. On Twitter, vx-underground showed that hackers have started a $1 million bid for the Cyberpunk code, the free card game Gwent and an unreleased version of The Witcher 3. While looking for the highest bidder, hackers are supposedly willing to sell the source codes immediately to anyone willing to spend $7 million.
CD Projekt Red is currently working with authorities to discover those responsible for the cyberattack. While it’s a huge security breach, this isn’t the first time something like this has happened. Ubisoft had the source code leaked for Watch Dogs: Legion, a game that brings a lot of digital hacking features, in November 2020.

about the attack
CD Projekt is certainly experiencing one of the worst years in its history. After the huge fiasco with the release of Cyberpunk, the company found itself in the crosshairs of several fans, shareholders and companies angry at what happened. Just as the situation was beginning to calm down, another tragedy struck. The Polish company was a victim of Ransomware.

For those unfamiliar with the term, Ransomware is when a hacker steals data from a company’s server and locks systems, demanding a payment in return for the release of servers and data. The practice has become increasingly common. According to experts, this is because companies still invest very little in digital security.
