Diablo 4 will be open world with lots of quests, PvP and customization.
Today (19), Blizzard announced several Diablo IV news during BlizzConline 2021, such as the Renegade class, which got an amazing trailer. After the opening ceremony ended, the game’s developers commented on a lot of information, including confirmation that it will be an open world full of activities.
Depending on the team, there will be a huge map that players can explore, do class-specific quests with various factions, clear camps corrupted by dark forces to create quick travel points, and other resources such as blacksmiths and NPCs. The world will be constantly changing with much more than has been reported; the idea is to leave the connected and mostly procedural areas of Diablo 3 and have a fluid experience with more modern aspects.
The Sanctuary of Diablo 4 will be much more vertical, something that will bring a special spice to a genre with isometric perspective camera, as players will need to scale walls, jump over hills and more. And, as you can imagine, a huge open world requires mounts.
At the live, the producers commented that the horses will be customizable in appearance and speed and it will even be possible to display trophies. In addition, attacks can be made from above the mount, using skills combined with speed. However, the horse will not die; if there is damage while riding, he will just run away.
One of the coolest things that were commented on in the live is that, depending on the area you are in, the weapons will be different. In Sanctuary there are several regions: if you take a sword in Kehjistan, it will be a scimitar; if you buy a sword in Scosglen, it will be a Nordic looking blade (since it’s north of the map). The same thing will happen with armor.
Speaking of weapons, players can improve them with elemental attributes such as ice, acid, poison and shadows. Depending on the style, each special ability will be quite different: Renegade’s ice arrow shower is very different from acid arrow shower, for example. Combining the moves with other players will be one of the main points of the gameplay (or choose better the build when playing in single player).
Diablo 4 will have new PvP elements
The Diablo 4 team said there will be PvP elements in the game. While exploring special PvP areas (ie it will be optional), it will be possible to collect “Hate Shards”, an important resource that will come out of monsters, events and chests and that must be purified to buy equipment, trophies and other things. According to the devs, as long as the hate shards are not cleansed, other players can kill whoever carries them to get the rewards.
The idea is to team up with other gamers to clear the areas, but you need to be aware that killing them also guarantees shards of hate rewards (in addition to stealing theirs). However, users who attack others will have the accumulated Curse of Mephisto, which can turn them into hateful spirits. By carrying this condition, all users will be able to see you at a wide range of the map as a threat — still, managing to flee the area like a hateful spirit guarantees great rewards.
Customization will be a big part of Diablo 4 and its classes
The developers commented a little on the visual and mechanical customization of Diablo 4. Among them, players will be able to customize the look of the characters, from the color and appearance of armor to tattoos and body details. And there’s also a deeper level of gameplay in the changes.

It will be possible to specialize in each class. With a Renegade, for example, there are three options:
- shadow realm: players use stealth to attack; in one of the skills, you can go to the shadow realm and be invisible to enemies, immune for 1 second and deal 50% more damage to all opponents.
- Exploit Weakness: During combat, enemies will have special icons above their heads; if the player attacks him, he will be able to make much more powerful blows, but this requires a high level of skill.
- Combo Points: Renegade can use special abilities as she attacks multiple enemies, racking up point combos; according to the developers, it’s almost like a rhythm style.
To top it all off, users will be able to fluidly combine classes. For example, you can use Shadow Realm in melee combat, Exploit Weakness with hybrid weapons or Combo Points with ranged weapons, setting up the class as you see fit.
Diablo 4 has no confirmed release date yet, but it will hit PS4, Xbox One and PC.
