More than two years have passed since DJI introduced the Mavic Air and now its renewal involves the second generation of the drone, the DJI Mavic Air 2. An improved version in particular in terms of photographic capacities and also in its autonomy.
The DJI Mavic Air model has been positioned to replace the Mavic Pro in a smaller and more compact size but with better features. In other words, the DJI consumer drone. The new generation follows in this wake focusing on improving features such as camera and photography modes available to users. Let’s see some of its features.

In the flight technical section, the DJI Mavic Air 2 slightly improves its functions by offering maximum flight time up to 34 minutes, this of course, in perfect condition. DJI says they introduced new engines and a more aerodynamic design for it.
Different characteristics of the drone allow easier flights by automatically avoiding obstacles or follow a route drawn by another object. The FocusTrack function allows you for example to select an object that the drone will follow automatically in the air, it also offers the possibility of creating predetermined routes that the drone can perform automatically.
The drone also presents new security functions to avoid obstacles with the front and rear sensors. They indicate that new auxiliary lights will allow the drone to land automatically and smoothly, even at night. Finally, the use of geopermissions is remarkable, which prevents the use of the drone in unauthorized areas such as airports.
8K resolution hyperlapse and other camera improvements
DJI Mavic presents for the first time a 4K video mode at 60 frames per second. This is the maximum video quality it accepts, although you can choose between different resolutions and formats:
- 4K: at 24/25/30/48/50/60 fps
- 2688 x 1512: at 24/25/30/48/50/60 fps
- 1920 x 1080: à 24/25/30/48/50/60/120/240 ips
- 4K HDR: at 24/25/30 ips
- 2688 x 1512 HDR: at 24/25/30 ips
- 1920 x 1080 HDR: at 24/25/30 ips
On the photography side, the DJI Mavic Air 2 allows you to capture images at 12 MP and in a Special 48 MP mode with a maximum resolution of 8000 x 6000 pixels (8K). This mode is the one that also allows you to do an 8K resolution hyperlapse (moving timelapse). When capturing photos, the drone can fly in free mode, in orbit, with a fixed heading or following a trajectory.
DJI also notes the inclusion of different smart capture modes to combine up to seven photos in HDR with different exposures, enhanced photos in low light environments or scene recognition to level out colors and light.
All these modes, the video options and in general the control of the trajectory of the camera and the drone are configured from the DJI app for iOS and Android.
