Everything you need to know about the Overwatch League.
One of the most exciting tournaments of the year, the Overwatch League, which Blizzard’s response to the e-sports frenzy, kicks off tomorrow. We have gathered everything for you to enjoy the matches.
The Overwatch League is Blizzard’s own e-sports league, which they organize and operate with the owners of the 12 participating teams. The competition will cover the entire year and will consist of several stages. The first week of the first stage begins with a match starting tomorrow at dawn.
Regular weekly group matches will be given on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, with 3 matches per day (this shifts a bit due to our time zones, but is on average correct). For us, the rounds start pretty late, the first round starts at 1:00, for example, but the match for the most important match in Europe, the London Spitfire, will start at 11, for example. Blizzard tried to arrange the dates so that fans of that region could follow the matches that were important to them.
Nonetheless, the schedule is a bit unfortunate for us, which you too could switch to local time on the official website of the league. Anyone who misses a match will also be able to make up for replays on the official site (along with a chat, thanks to Twitch’s VoD system). For fans who are afraid of spoilers, we recommend the / r / Overwatched page, where admins make videos completely spoiler-free.
In the first season of the league, 12 teams will compete, who entered the competition on a franchise basis, i.e. shopping. The squads are mostly made up of veteran Overwatch players and already well-known players in the e-sports industry. The teams are tied to one big city: 9 American, 1 Korean, 1 Chinese and 1 European team entered the first round.
This team has no reputable investors or affiliation with an NBA team. The squad, recruited from beginners and young talent, despite entering the arena anonymously, stood its ground smoothly in the preseason. The team named 4 support players, which also works for them, given that the meta is currently heavily burdened by healers.
The guys went big against the Shanghai Dragons, it’s worth making up for these matches.
Who Seagull he was looking for his name, he found it here now. The first big name of the Overwatch community signed with the Dallas Squad, though it received quite a few offers. The team is anyway EnVyUswas made up of people who took home several major titles from the Overwatch tournaments. Their OWL membership Kenneth Hersh they owe oil and energy to a mogul who invested millions in the team. There is a good chance that this money will pay off. Dallas Fuel is currently one of the most popular Overwatch teams, so only the blue and white jerseys will come up with serious sales.
Introducing the Florida team, which is British Misfits is owned by an organization and is full of Swedish players. Don’t even ask, but the point is, the guys aren’t very strong anyway. They had some nice wins in the preseason, but it would be a big surprise if these players brought home the cup.
Thanks to the black-and-green painting, we wouldn’t be surprised if we encountered the skins of this team the most in Overwatch. The guys got very cool branding, which is also accompanied by a suitably talented team Optic Gaming thanks to its former members. Half of the Outlaws came from the American World Cup squad, which was otherwise knocked out by the Korean players of the Soul Dynasty. The big rivalry is already in place for the season, although for now they seem the weakest of the pair.
London Spitfire is owned by the American Cloud9, which has already proven itself in League of Legends, CS: GO and Hearthstone. The organization has managed to grab the rights of the European city, so they will be “our team”. As long as it doesn’t bother domestic fans that Korean players are shooting under the flag. The team is the former GC Busan and KongDoo Panthera came together from clubs, the latter being the most successful team in Season 3 of the Overwatch Apex. You will want to pay attention to them.
Los Angeles Gladiators
Well, this is one of the teams funded by suits enriched by physical sports. THE Kroenke brothers the Arsenal and LA Rams team owners, and since they saw the opportunity in e-sports, they also added this to their investor list. By the way, legends like Bischu, whose name sounds familiar to most League of Legends fans for a reason. Former member of the Canadian national team, Surefour also plays here, whose excellent performance can take gladiators to the middle of the field. To get higher, the others have to pull themselves together.
Los Angeles Valiant
This is the team Immortals owned by. The organization was cut out of NALCS by Riot Games, so the guys are now fully prepared to kick the door to a new arena. The Valiant, by the way, has an excellent preseason behind it, where LA Gladiators and San Francisco Shock were also beaten. Squad starring Brady “Agilities“Girardi just turned 18 in December, so he can already help the second LA team take first place. By the way, the organization’s owner, Noah Whinston, feels like a sacred mission to smash money bags from big vests from traditional sports.
New York Excelsior
The New York team itself Jeff Wilpon, the Mets owner supports. The boss of the legendary sports team didn’t even trust him to chance. Together with the management of Excelsior, they put together a six-man team of South Koreans, in which a young talent, Fl0w3R also got a place. The guy will be too young to attend until May, but the NY squad will be kicking in by then.
Fusion is the only team to have completely skipped the preseason, probably due to visa issues. The team is no easy case anyway, their tank player, Sado, for example, was recently suspended for boosting others for money. Since they completely ignored the preseason, we have no idea how strong they are. By the way, Fusin a Comcast, is owned by an American telecommunications company.
San Francisco Shock
SF Shock can claim the most illustrious investor guard with names like J.Lo and Shaquille O’Neal. The team is anyway NRG is owned by an e-sports organization, so there is no particular problem with management. By the way, the team has signed a 17-year-old star, Jay “sinatraa” Wont, who, despite not being able to play on stage until March, has already fought for a $ 150,000 salary. We can’t wait to see the young titanium sharp.
The Korean team has already been hailed by everyone as the winner of the first season. Half of the squad is 2017 World Cup winner he came out of the Korean national team, and during the preseason they also collected 3 wins, setting a record right in the first phase. There is nothing to conjure up here, the former Lunatic-Hai players have a good chance of starting for first place.
Of the Chinese squad’s 6-man team, 3 were among the top 8 in the 2017 World Cup. The Dragons are full of talented players, but they still didn’t do very well in the preseason. What’s more, the team coach faces severe penalties as he shared his Overwatch account and held discussions with professional players from other teams without the consent of management. If a Chinese representative is bidding for something nicer, he needs to pull himself together more seriously.
It can already be seen from the above that he is starting to compete for the rankings, even though the season has not yet started. You can follow the matches on the official website of Overwatch or on the channel Twitch.tv/OverwatchLeague, and if you want an audience, look down on one of the Barcraft, in 1 and 2 you can even hit the grabs with a gift.
