Final Fantasy: Soulslike style?
As we get closer to E3 2021, which will take place on June 12th and 13th, there are rumors and speculations about several games, and as it is nothing new in the gaming world, here or there an apparently totally concrete rumor appears. This time it was no different, there has recently been a rumor that Square Enix is working on a new game in the Final Fantasy franchise, which is supposed to be released for the PlayStation 5 and presented during this year’s E3.
However, supposed information was “leaked” that ended up moving the internet a lot today (23) about the title.
French leaker Souls Hunt recently posted a video where he speculates that this new Final Fantasy will be produced by Team Ninja, known for the Nioh franchise. In addition, the game would be more focused on the Souls-like side.
However, it looks like it won’t be a standard Souls-like like we’re used to seeing, the leaker still compares the new FF to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order from Respawn. Leaker S. Hunt has speculated that this new Final Fantasy game will be announced during this E3 2021, and that a playable demo will be released this summer to gather feedback from those lucky enough to catch a glimpse of such a demo, which is not surprising considering Team Ninja released several demos for Nioh and Nioh 2 to tweak game mechanics before release.
Finally, this new Final Fantasy will be a PlayStation 5 exclusive, but Hunt exposes that it will only be a temporary exclusive as it was for Nioh.
Along these lines, a resetera user, Navtra, was the one who spread the original rumor of the title’s existence. Having a good reputation for leaking information about Square Enix, the user stated that the game will really be inspired by the Souls-like genre, in these words:
I believe you can expect at least one more important announcement from FF, plus updates on currently announced material (XVI / Endwalker / VIR).
It should be a good E3 season for Square in general.
I don’t know the exact schedule for E3 but I’m guessing based on knowledge of what games they have in development, what stage they’re at, and what release dates they have. So take it with a grain of salt.
I believe we will have two big SE reveals in June: a PS5 exclusive FF title and a cross-generation Eidos title.
Just to set expectations: it’s something new. Not as sophisticated as FFXVI or Forespoken, but certainly more significant than World of FF or a remaster. Conceptually, I think it might be a lot of people’s alley.
For now it’s all just rumors, we have to wait for an official announcement from Square Enix itself, which could happen during E3 2021 that will take place on June 12th and 13th. Meanwhile, Square Enix has already been working on Final Fantasy XVI for PlayStation 5 and in Forspoken, a new company action RPG for PRAÇA and PlayStation 5.
Although Souls Hunt has proven to be trustworthy in the past, we cannot literally take and faithfully believe their information.
In short, E3 is knocking on our digital doors, so it won’t be long before we get a sense of what’s to come about this new entry in the Final Fantasy series.
Therefore, I recommend caution to everyone to wait for more information about the matter and whether or not such rumors mentioned above will be confirmed.
