Fortnite Battle Royale: 13 tips for beginners

1 – Choose where to land

Your first decision is one of the most important: where the hell do I land on this map? What you have to keep in mind is: avoid other players. The more people you fall with, the less chance you have of staying alive.

So choose a place with some buildings, which is more or less in the middle of the map. Also avoid big cities or places with a lot of buildings, because probably a lot of people go there too. And our motto is “the fewer people the better”. You can also mark on the map the point you want to land, to help you in the landing.

2 – Look for weapons and equipment

Now that you’ve landed in a safe place, it’s time to run for gear. At this first moment, grab everything you can. The important thing now is that you have the basics to survive.

Play with what you feel most comfortable with, but don’t forget that you have different types of weapons to choose from. For example, it’s always good to carry a weapon that is good for close range and another for long.

3 – Know the level of weapons

Fortnite Battle Royale: 13 tips for beginners

In Fortnite weapons have different types of levels (or tier). The best equipment is hidden in chests inside buildings. The higher the weapon’s level, the greater its damage and the better its aim. So don’t hesitate for a second to change your melee weapon into a yellow one to finish off your opponents. See the list of levels:

  • white – common
  • green – unusual
  • blue – rare
  • purple – epic
  • orange – legendary
  • gold – mythical

4 – Collect materials

Take advantage of the beginning of the game to collect as much wood, stone and metal as you can. To get started, secure at least 300 units of wood for you to use during the match. To collect, you can use vehicles, walls, trees, stones on the ground… and everything else in the scenario. This material will be very important for the next tip:

5 – Build walls and stairs

The construction of walls and stairs is what makes Fortnite different from other Battle Royale games. So, take advantage of it. But be careful! These structures make noise, so you have to be safe when making them.

Wooden walls can be a great way to quickly protect yourself from gunfire. So learn how to quickly build one so it can absorb damage for you in a fight. Metal and stone structures are stronger, but take longer to build. So use them when you’re in a good central position that you can stay for a while. Stairs are effective for reaching places you wouldn’t be able to walk. So don’t hesitate to use them too.

6 – Always stay alert

Always remember that you may have enemies nearby. So move carefully, squat down from time to time and never look like a crazy person in an unfamiliar place. Another tip is also to avoid open fields, because in them you will be much more visible and an easy target for opponents.

7 – Beware of the Storm

In most Battle Royale games, after a while, an area appears that will damage whoever is inside and can kill you. In Fortnite, this is called the storm. Always remember to avoid her to keep yourself safe.

She is usually your enemy, but you can also use her to your advantage! If you stay close to her, you’ll never have enemies behind her and you’ll have to worry about one less direction. Also, it’s much easier to get the others on their backs and kill them 😉

8 – Be silent

One of the best weapons in the game is your hearing, as it makes it much easier to know if someone is around. In the same way, it is important to move without making noises as well. Running and walking are faster, but they make a lot more noise. If you think there’s someone around, crouch down and try to walk as little as possible, so you catch the guy by surprise and win x1.

9 – Only shoot when you can kill

One of the biggest mistakes of Fortnite beginners is shooting whenever they see an opponent. You often denounce your position and you can’t kill the guy. And as one of the biggest advantages of the game is the surprise, so use it to your advantage. Wait for a better position and when you’re more sure you’re going to kill the guy, shoot!

10 – Drink the shield potions

In addition to your health, Fortnite also helps you improve your defense with armor potions. So whenever you find one of them – probably inside chests – and your blue bar isn’t full, drink it before getting into confrontations. That way you will have more life and more chance to survive.

11 – Look for player building

Fortnite Battle Royale: 13 tips for beginners

If you’re playing Fortnite and you don’t want to kill enemies, you’re doing something wrong. And one of the best ways to know where they are is by looking for his buildings. So whenever you see a wall or a ladder built out of nothing, make sure someone has already passed by and can open the scope to take the guy down, before he takes you down.

12 – Remember: Structures Break

It’s always good to keep yourself covered with walls or doors. But unlike other games like PUBG, house walls can also be destroyed. So whenever you’re in a firefight, always be prepared to run to defend yourself somewhere else.

13 – Be careful when looting

Fortnite Battle Royale: 13 tips for beginners

Instead of running like an idiot after all the loot you see on the ground, you have to be careful. There can always be someone else just waiting to shoot you in the back of the head. So don’t go to the pot so thirsty and look around instead if you can have someone lurking just waiting for another audacious fool who wants to pick up that legendary weapon on the ground.
